New to cpaptalk, hello

Post by sleepwaker » Fri Sep 15, 2006 6:07 am

Hi everybody.
Im new to apnoea and what a strange disorder it is.
Ive got my first app in oct to see the proffesser at the hosp. Dont know what to expect when i get there. Im worried.

I keep waking up out of my sleep due to having stopped breathing, Gasping and struggling for air. Ive also chocked severly as i ran from the bed to the toilet in a race to get air. The noises i make during this sruggle wake my husband up and make the cat run for its life as it often thinks im doing it at it and i frighten the life out of it. My relationship with the cat is rocky now.
Does anyone out there wake up from this.

My capper-less symptoms were exactly the same as yours. Except I woke
up 6 times with atrial fibrillation, and had to undergo shock treatments 4
times to relieve it.

In my case I would sleep for 4 hours, wake up gasping, and I would need
to stay upright for about an hour before going back to bed.

Are you seeing a cardiologist? If you are, maybe he can speed up the
process, mine sure did..

Thanks for reply, i feel allot better knowing im not on my own. My app is with the respiratory dept at the hospital.
I think its a lunge and breathing dept.
I don't know what atrial fibrillation is, it sounds terrifing now im really frightened.
Can you tell me what it means is happening.

Welcome, Sleepwaker - we're glad you found this forum. We're all in this together and everyone tries to help as best they can. There are some espcially bright people here (I'm not one of them) and all are so friendly. You've gotten yourself in the right place to help with questons and not feel so alone with this. Whatever you're feeling, there's a pretty good chance someone ha felt it too.

Best of luck with your cpap journey!!
Kathy

Read the link posted a couple posts up carefully.

And to sum it up, don't agree to take a machine from a DME unless you have researched fully, asked your questions here both technical and financial and understand and agree with what the DME wants to give you.

Get your prescription and a copy of you sleep study for you to hold. If you doc is unwilling to provide these to you you may need to work with another doc.
