CPAP information for new users

Post by rested gal » Fri Sep 08, 2006 10:50 pm

Mile High Sleeper has created an excellent resource for people new to sleep apnea and cpap machines/masks:

http://www.smart-sleep-apnea.blogspot.com/

Here's an excerpt from the beginning of the blog:

Obstructive Sleep Apnea - Get Smart Fast

Disclaimer: These peer coaching articles describe what some savvy, successful CPAP users have done to make their treatment successful. Not written by healthcare professionals. The information and opinions may not necessarily be correct or helpful for you and your unique needs. Rely on sound, well informed medical advice from your doctors and other healthcare professionals well versed in treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

About Me

Name:Mile High Sleeper Gal
Location:United States

IF I ONLY KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW! Blog Purpose: To help you with your CPAP therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). For family, friends, doctors, respiratory therapists, sleep technicians, other CPAP users. Why This Came to Be: I didn’t have the information I needed for successful CPAP treatment at the time I needed it. A kind sleep lab technician with OSA told me about a web site he had heard about from another patient, http://www.cpaptalk.com. The rest is history. It took me weeks and months of reading hundreds of posts to gather the information I needed while suffering through equipment struggles. Not everyone has that time or wants to struggle needlessly. I wrote up my own experience and advice from the collective wisdom of experienced CPAP users on cpaptalk.com. Thanks to that web site and its contributors, my treatment is working. I’m not sure I could have done it without them. The online CPAP equipment store https://www.cpap.com created cpaptalk.com. I’m not affiliated with them or paid by them. I appreciate what they are giving back to the CPAP community through their website forum, as well as their fair prices.

Info for new users

Post by kteague » Fri Sep 08, 2006 11:14 pm

Thanks for the "heads up" on this informative blog. We talk about compiling info for new users, but Mile High Sleeper Gal has put a lot of time and work into equipping those new to the cpap with a navigation tool. What a generous and caring labor of love.
Kathy

Mile High Sleeper Gal (and RG)-

What an AMAZINGLY VALUABLE and WONDERFUL contribution that you've made to the world!! The peoples' world of SDB, CSDB, and xPAP will NEVER be the same and is now a much richer place, thanks to you.

We all are indebted beyond words!!

Thank you.

Chuck

N.B. One quick factual correction. In your CPAP note, you recommend some form of expiratory pressure relief and state that ResMed offers EPR only in its straight CPAP machines. In fact, it only offers EPR in its top-of-the-line CPAPs as well as in its APAP machine, the S8 Vantage (but only in CPAP mode, as you aptly pointed out). (I have NOTHING to do with ResMed. I'm a state government slug.)

People are dying every day in Darfur simply for who they are!!! PLEASE HELP THEM!

!!!WOW!!! GREAT JOB Mile High Sleepy Gal! Extremely well done! To bad this isn't a required handout at diagnosis - would save sooo many people a lot of very unnecessary aggravation. You covered most everything I have spent the last two months learning. THANKS Mile High Sleeper for the great contribution, and yet another big thank you to Rested gal for keeping us tuned in to all the info out there - you do get around! --- BT

That site is so good the link to it ought to be made a permanent sticky at the top of the index page so all newcomers can find it.

Thank you for the hard work and wonderful results.

I would agree with Linda B....it certainly merits permanent status so as to be readily accessible to new folks. Great job, MileHigh!!

Great Resource!

Post by birdshell » Sat Sep 09, 2006 9:30 pm

Here we have all thought that there should be a resource for newbies. Rested Gal keeps posting her links. The rest of us say we should get something together.

Mile High, instead of just thinking about it, you just did it! Action speaks as loudly as the words.

Even the experienced xPAPers can benefit from this resource, y'know. Good on ya!

THANK YOU a million times for posting Mile High Sleeper's link, RestedGal. What an incredible resource.

I feel so blessed to have all this information BEFORE I get into the whole process with the CPAP, mask, humidifier, etc.
You guys are the best, I can't say how much better I feel about things now.
