EncorePro Snore Index is suddenly through the roof...

Post by SleepyHibiscus » Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:11 am

Been using apap and EncorePro for 19 nights (but who's counting) and the past 3 nightly reports give snore indexes outrageously high at (400+ per night) when they have normally been low (15-40 snores per night).

Last night I was in bed, just reading for 5-10 mins with my apap on and I turned it off because I felt too congested to sleep. I took the smart card out to get a computer reading just for the fun of it and it read 23 vibratory snores. I was totally awake reading! Anyone else have this? Any suggestions.

I was just thinking... maybe my congested breathing the past few nights is registering as snores?

Thanks. Sleep in peace.
Deb

how load do you turn the pages

Post by wolftracker » Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:22 am

of you book ... maybe that is it
and do you toss and turn

or do you have the hybrid mask

my snores go through the roof with the hybrid
and i swear that tossing and turn has to count as
snores ... or maybe the cat growling

i wish i knew where the sensor for snoring was
so i could be a piece of tape over it to see what that
does

any ideas where the snore sensor is all you experts

Deb,

If your AHI is OK, I wouldn't worry about the Snore Index. It's been proven that the machines detect false snores from other things.

Best wishes,

Den

Like Den says, and being conjested badly, makes everything harder. It's a uphill fight every nite. Jim

I have to set my high pressure on APAP to my sweet spot on CPAP or Snores cause the pressure to exceed my needs, on the worse nights.

Very likely so.

I agree with Den. I used to always register a LOT of snores with the REMstar Auto. But using the exact same mask, exact same separate humidifier, exact same pressure settings (and with C-flex turned off to keep all factors the same) I'd have tons of "snores" marked with the REMstar and none marked with the PB 420E. I tested that for a week or so, alternating machines on consecutive nights. My AHI was always nice and low with either machine. I just ignored the snore index readings on the REMstar Auto.

Maybe one of these days I'll have a chance to try a REMstar M Auto. Would be interesting to see if Respironics tweaked the "vibratory snore" algorithm in the M version of the REMstar Auto. The Respironics BiPAP Auto I use hardly ever records a single snore for me.

snores causing anxiety

Post by SleepyHibiscus » Tue Aug 29, 2006 12:28 pm

Thank you Goof, Wolf, Den, and Rested Gal... aawwww I love you guys. Again, here in this forum, the experience and compassion of fellow cpapers has come through for someone in need.

Yes, I've been having a few bad nights and just want to chuck it all in. Sometimes this new OSA thing really gets me mad and I'm so frustrated with it. I'm mourning the loss of freedom of movement while sleeping and loss of control (the machine v.s. me) and learning a new way to sleep hooked to a machine and strapped in a mask.

My AHI is fine; always below 5.0, and usually below 3.0. I'll try not to look at the snore index... it seems to pick up on every little tiny thing, relevant or not.

Peace all.

Deb,
Are you using a hose cover? The various hose covers help stop the false
snore that can occur when the hose is pulled across something, like a
bedpost.

+ Aussie heated hose.

No. I don't use a hose cover, but what a great idea... I never thought of it. I do move the hose around a lot across the headboard, etc. Maybe that is causing false snores? Thanks oldgearhead. What is the best place to get a hosecover??
