Re: Why would I have worse results on a FFM vs Nasal pillows?
This is what you said a week ago on your first post...Buddy0329 wrote:LSAT wrote:Personally, I think you should pick the mask that is most comfortable for you and wear it for a week. Then go in and see what your data looks like. One or two nights don't really tell much. You need longer data to determine anything.
I like both masks. I like that the F20 has even lower leak rates than the Nuance per my data and that I dont have to fiddle with the fitting at all if I toss and turn at night. I need a FFM at least on standby for nights when I'm sick and/or congested and can't breathe through my nose. The F20 fit me so well, I could wear it every night without issue...except for the headaches (brain cell death?) , and high # of apneas!
After my first 3 nights on cpap I'm waking feel much more energized. I've had DreamMapper software installed for 2 nights and my AHI has been 2 and 5. During my sleep study my AHI while on my back was 80! That's why I guess I've always been a side sleeper (AHI was 8 on my side).

MORE, until your AHI comes down and you feel better.Buddy0329 wrote:I clearly understand the recommendation to go higher. But how much higher? What's a "safe" or normal interval? Is it something within the SleepyHead data? the Mean? Something else? I'm trying to wrap my head around how to evaluate the data and react to it appropriately.
what's safe? your machine doesn't go to "not safe" no matter what you set it to.

I don't mean to be argumentative either but I am having a hard time figuring out the question here and what you want from us.
You will need to raise the minimum again if you want to use the Full face mask.
How much? I don't know. There's no way for us to know ahead of time how much more you might need.
You aren't feeling so great. I get that but your therapy isn't for one... optimal and for two... even if it was optimal that's no guarantee you will feel those good numbers once you get them. I wish I could promise you that all your complaints will go away immediately once you get some really good consistent numbers but I can't do that.
There's so much more to all this than just the AHI. Getting a nice low AHI is the easy part. Feeling the good numbers (once you get them consistently) isn't always so easy.
And for three....you haven't been at this cpap thing for very long...even under the best of possible circumstances it's not an immediate fix for a lot of people.
Since you seem to feel that you and I can't seem to communicate very well...I will bow out.
I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Why would I have worse results on a FFM vs Nasal pillows?
Noses are limited to a fairly small range of sizes and shapes; therefore, nasal pillows tend to be easier to fit.
Full face masks are generally limited to 3 or 4 sizes, and only ONE general shape.
If Nature has blessed you with a non-conforming (but adorable) face, you are SOL, like me.

My apologies if you felt anything I said was "snide". It certainly wasn't intended that way.

Actually I was being very sincere. I never say anything I don't mean.Buddy0329 wrote:I'll assume you're trying to be sincere, but for the record I really hate non-apology apologies.

A very experienced and unselfish member like Pugsy is trying to help you the best way she possibly can and your going to throw your nonsense in her face?
You need to seriously check your attitude at the door.

Let's hope that after a week or two of good sleep .... after he settles on a mask and raises the pressure ,,, he will not be so argumentative.
For most people it take several months to get the settings right and get accustom to sleeping with the machine and mask

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!
