Long time no see!!
Hello everyone! Its been ages! The kid is still going strong on cpap and had a new titration study this year and they put her on a pressure of 8.
She's still averaging about 10 hours a night. They changed her mask to the whisp and she's loving it
I finally had a redo of my sleep study from my last mess. This one was done at home. I hopefully will know any results by Monday they say.

I haven't followed your case or your child's case, but here is something I always ask when a child is involved. In many cases, palate expanders and jaw-widening devices can be used to cure a child of obstructive sleep apnea. Have you consulted with a pediatric orthodontist who has heavy experience with sleep apnea patients?SleepyonMagnoliaSt wrote:The kid

My child has an underlying health issue which is why we opted out of tonsil and adenoid removal and palate expanding and jaw-widening devices would be cruel when she tolerates Cpap well and she might grow out of it as she ages.ChicagoGranny wrote:I haven't followed your case or your child's case, but here is something I always ask when a child is involved. You joined after my radio silence. I was around in 2013 and then actually forgot about the forum existing lol. I came across it while researching home studies since it's what I just had done.tlohse wrote:Welcome Back sounds like things are going well. I believe I don't think Ive seen you on here before.

I never heard of someone growing out of obstructive sleep apnea. Where did you get this advice?SleepyonMagnoliaSt wrote:she might grow out of it as she ages

From her sleep doctor. Certified in children's sleep disorders. She's 10. As she grows her face and neck will change shape (especially during puberty these changes happen). There's a 60% chance she will grow out of it.Cereal Killer wrote:I never heard of someone growing out of obstructive sleep apnea. Even if she doesn't still not doing surgery because the risk of complications that include death are much higher for her with her disorder. She likes her cpap and falls asleep within 10 minutes of putting it on.

Obstructive sleep-disordered breathing is common in children. From 3 percent to 12 percent of children snore, while obstructive sleep apnea syndrome affects 1 percent to 10 percent of children. The majority of these children have mild symptoms, and many outgrow the condition.

Yes that is true I remember hearing that before about children out growing the condition but as for apnea in general you never really get rid of it as there really is no cure. CPAP just helps you manage it.

Yeah for adults and older kids (16-18) it doesn't happen but kids especially young kids before puberty who have a lot of growing to do it happens often. Your face and jaw shape change a lot as you grow in your teens.tlohse wrote:Yes that is true I remember hearing that before about children out growing the condition but as for apnea in general you never really get rid of it as there really is no cure. Thinking back I remember coming back to school after summer vacations and some people changed so wildly it was fascinating

I think you are doing some very wishful thinking.SleepyonMagnoliaSt wrote:Your face and jaw shape change a lot as you grow in your teens.
No one has suggested surgery in this thread. If it were my daughter, I would have a consultation with an orthodontist as suggested above. He should do an evaluation of, not only the teeth, but also the width and depth of the jaw and the arch of the hard palate.
Idiotic statement.tlohse wrote:I remember hearing that before about children out growing the condition but as for apnea in general you never really get rid of it as there really is no cure.

Well its not your daughter is it? I find is asinine to come into a thread where someone says their kid is fine with cpap and uses it perfectly without issues and suggest things without knowing anything about that child.Cereal Killer wrote:I think you are doing some very wishful thinking.SleepyonMagnoliaSt wrote:Your face and jaw shape change a lot as you grow in your teens.

Also? I trust my daughters sleep doctor who knows all of her medical history over someone online who doesn't know us or our history.
Just because you haven't heard it doesn't mean its not true re outgrowing sleep apnea.
My Kid can't even see a regular dentist and has to be in the hospital for even fillings so yes any dental procedures would be a big deal.

Re: Long time no see!!
Another link that says kids can outgrow apnea
http://www.alaskasleep.com/blog/age-and ... leep-apnea
Treatment for children with sleep apnea
Many children can outgrow their sleep apnea as they age and their throats get larger and throat muscles gain definition and strength
So yeah. I'm not here to talk about what you all think about my child. I am here because she uses cpap. Don't like it? Get over it. She's been on it 3 years and likes her cpap

just fyi, I've read some stuff on that blog, and it seems they play fast and loose with what they say... at least the things I've read.SleepyonMagnoliaSt wrote:Another link that says kids can outgrow apnea
