Any tips for dry mouth?
Re: Any tips for dry mouth?
Dry mouth has nothing to do with humidity, filters, type of mask or temperature of the air or the water. It is due to mouth breathing only, whether it be exhaling or inhaling. My dry mouth is due to recirculation of air into my nose then out my mouth because my tongue drops back and exposes the airway. Not very much, but enough to cause dry mouth. I have tried to train my tongue to keep it from happening, with some success. I have taped, but stopped, not because it's dangerous, I do not believe this, but because it's just a large pain in the ass. I have tried two different chin straps, including the popular Ruby Red and the ResMed Both failed. I had to tighten the straps so tight they hurt for them to do any good at all. Now, I use Oragel For Dry Mouth after reading about it on this site, when I go to bed and again when I wake up with dry mouth about 4AM. Some folks might like Biotene products, both liquid and gel for dry mouth. I just can't go the taste. The Oragel does not prevent it, but helps. At least I'm free from the taping and the chinstrap. I also keep a bottle of water for when I wake up more than once. Good luck!

Re: Any tips for dry mouth?
Thanks everyone for the tips! I'm not sure that my problem is completely resolved, and I haven't been able to use all of your tips/advice yet due to lack of having what I need to do so. But I was inspired by your ideas and used what I had around the house to get some relief until I could get to other things. I got a new bottle of nose spray and it is working much better, and I also dabbed a little bit of vix vapor rub on the opening of my nose, and it really helped open up my nose. The last two nights have been much better. I was able to fall asleep breathing through my nose and woke up in the middle of the night breathing through my mouth but was able to correct it pretty fast because my nose wasn't actually stuffed up. I think if I continue to feel really good about breathing through my nose I will use a chin strap to help with the rest.
