Having been in the Greek system, I never ever...nope not even once, went to a party that was as bad as Animal House. And, I was right there in that time span. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be 20 and have to sleep with a cpap, your still coming into yourself at that age. IMO, it's statements like yours that prevent sensitive people from coming on here and asking questions. You are what people nowadays would term a bully. Why do you feel the need to make a 20 year old kid feel bad?

You don't think there aren't "bullies" in the Greek system? Read some of those links I provided.

There are also "bullies" in the real world.
Some of them are in the "DME system". They tell CPAP users that they can't see their own data, change their own machine pressures, monitor their own therapy, etc., etc.
One of the things we try to do on this forum is get people to "grow a set" and take control of their own therapy......to stand up for themselves. The sooner the better. Nobody is going to care about YOUR therapy more then YOU.

It's a cruel world out there. Being coddled by enablers doesn't help these young adults. At 20, you're an "adult" in most regards.
You can be in the military and fight for and lose your life for your country.

Not wanting to look at yourself in the mirror makes me think that you do indeed care what you look like..denial perhaps?

Sorry coop, even with this being a support group, there's always a few that seem to forget that.

Of course there are bullies everywhere. He didn't say he isn't using his cpap, just turned to the forum to ask how/if he could make the mask a little cooler. I'm sure if the first thing someone reads is the demeaning and totally immature 'grow a set' all it is going to do is turn them off the forum, silly me, I guess I really believed it was here to help people, not be condescending. You talk about some greeks being immature, I think you do need to look in that mirror...might be surprised what you find there!

No, not denial.......I just didn't have any mirrors in the bedroom and I don't use my CPAP in the bathroom.
And, I'm not egotistical enough to "admire" my image by looking in a mirror with my therapy gear on.
I've always been able to easily put my mask together and adjust it without looking in a mirror.
Apparently, some people can't.......or they like to critique their own looks with their masks on.

What if the issue was crutches or wheelchairs or some other physical challenge that was obvious at times other than when he slept?

I understand what you are saying. BUT, it's not crutches or a wheelchair. In this case it's a CPAP mask. I'm guessing he isn't comfortable about telling them to F O, which is why he is asking for suggestions. Ask your kids what they think. I think they would say a little support is in order here. You know so much about this stuff... can you think of a mask that might work for his situation?

NEWS BREAK, the mask isn't meant to be used at the Ball, it's meant to be used the night before, so you can wake up and go to the Ball. Put on that ugly mask and get some sleep, let you stepsister clean the house, put your glass slippers on climb into your pumpkin, and have your Ball, rested. Jim

Just guessing here, but I think CooprDawg might want to attract coeds, not 46 year married ladies.

By the way, I've actually been to Columbus.
To paraphrase W.C. Fields........"I was in Columbus once, but it was closed."
It was actually very late one night and I flew in, rented a car on my way to Kenton. That was about 1982 or 83.

I think some Quotes got a bit butchered. Anyways, I doubt it's anyone's idea to try and look sexy in a cpap mask.

cooprdawg wrote:Hi all. I have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea for nearly a year now. I have had a ResMed air sense 10 with a mouth and nose mask. Being 20 years old in college and living in a fraternity house, wearing a mask while I'm sleeping isn't something I always enjoy doing. People are always coming in and out of rooms and what not and I personally do not like being seen wearing such a medial looking mask. Almost everybody in the house knows about my apnea but I want a mask that doesn't look so ugly. As these two words sound oddly in a sentence together, but I want to have a mask that looks more appealing and "hip". To many this may sound odd but I have a feeling that some people may have a similar insecurity with the appearance of their mask while being worn, even if it is within your own home. If anyone has any company names that sell something like it please let me know. I do know of the process hydro dipping and I assume some of you do as well. I feel like this could possibly be an easy fix but not sure if it would interfere with anything on the mask itself. Thanks y'all
Coop,

Take your therapy seriously. As you can tell, WE DO!

But, if some "accessories" may be needed to improve the looks, maybe you could get some ideas from this person......
Or, if you DON'T use your therapy, you could end up looking like this person.

Vain people are shallow people, not worth wasting your time over. Learn to respect yourself, and what you have offer others, be happy with what you have, that's what matters.

KIX quote: "XPAP MASKS are for Sleeping, You Silly Rabbit!"

If someone other than my wife, finds me sleeping in my house, in my bed, they are intruders, S & W, has my permission to deal with them. They will most likely be shot by a masked man, but not the Lone Ranger! Jim

Cooprdawg wanted something "hip" which probably means he needs to ask on tumblr. I like the idea of Hydro drip paints. He could also get a tattoo.

The real news is that he posted this thread and he and his frat buddies are laughing their butts off that folks took him seriously.
