Interesting and good idea. I had not seen her brandy keg post. It seems to accomplish the same thing as my soft cervical collar and may be more comfortable for some people.chunkyfrog wrote:Kiralynx shared a unique solution, the "brandy keg":

The masks you reported using in your original post are full face masks -->andycole wrote:I did take a look at full-face masks but have to talk with the respiratory therapist first
So far have tried ResMed F10, Phillips Amara View, and now ResMed Quattro Pro

In my area, I have trouble finding a soft cervical collar for sale without a prescription.
My pool noodle is only 2.5" diameter, so I'm thinking of cutting off a chunk, spreading a
clearance skein of soft yarn over it, and covering the works with a pantyhose leg.
The other leg would serve as a strap around the back of my neck.

Yes, I had to buy from Amazon, no big deal. I could never find one locally.Gasper62 wrote:chunkyfrog wrote:In my area, I have trouble finding a soft cervical collar for sale without a prescription.

Chunky, just about anything along those lines will work. I used 1 inch foam, cut into about a 3" X 8" piece (just long enough to go about half way around my neck) wrapped it in a bandana, placed it under my chin with the ends of the bandana coming together behind my neck and and held it closed with some Velcro safety pinned to the ends of the bandana. What impressed me about collars is how much they reduced my Flow Limitations.

Re: Full face mask pops up into mouth while sleeping
sorry guys - meant to say that I have been looking at whole-face masks. I know I go to sleep on my right side so don't understand how my chin could drop. Thinking this be be a cough or gag reflex.
PS: downloaded sleepyhead and loaded data. It's telling me I have too much leakage - that's understandable considering the mask pops up. But the asv sleep report says I have good mask fit - really strange.
PPS: don't know if insurance would allow it, but I talked to therapist about doing another study but using my equipment. Since I live alone, I have no one to tell me what is happening.

I've wanted to experience what a total face mask is like but, they don't offer them at my DME source. (Sleepmed) I really don't want to take a chance on a purchase without a preview. Good luck, however you proceed.

Many of us start out on one side or the other but end up on our backs sometime during the night.andycole wrote: I know I go to sleep on my right side so don't understand how my chin could drop. Thinking this be be a cough or gag reflex.
I "think" the mask fit report is more forgiving than SleepyHead. I think one can get a smiley face (if that's what you're referring to) as long as 70% of the time the leak rate is less than 24L/min while in Sleepyhead we're looking for a leak rate less than 24L/min 95% of the time.andycole wrote:PS: downloaded sleepyhead and loaded data. Re: Full face mask pops up into mouth while sleeping
This comment seems strange. Your chin can certainly drop while sleeping on your side. If you are pressing your face hard into the pillow, it might inhibit the drop a bit.andycole wrote: I know I go to sleep on my right side so don't understand how my chin could drop.
Re: Full face mask pops up into mouth while sleeping
The mask fit report is a lot more forgiving for sure.Jay Aitchsee wrote: I "think" the mask fit report is more forgiving than SleepyHead.
SleepyHead is a bit "conservative" and often tells me I have too much leak when in reality it wasn't all that bad.
While I don't agree that 29% of the time in big leak is okay where a person would still get Mr Smiley...I also don't think that 2% of the time (per SH) warrants an "OMG your leaks are horrible" remark.
This is where I look to see just how far into big leak territory did I go and how long was I there.
26 L/min earns a large leak flag but it really isn't that far into large leak territory and I don't worry about short periods of time just barely into large leak territory but SH will slap my hands.

Casper62 - I've been looking at total-face on the web using some of the links other users have posted. At more than $100 a mask, I'm very hesitant and want to discuss with respiratory therapist first. But I did get a bunch of tips today by browsing this website postings. Good luck to you.

Re: Full face mask pops up into mouth while sleeping
Thanks. I just noticed that CPAP.com offers free return insurance on one of the total face masks they sell. That makes it a lot more tempting to give one a try.andycole wrote:Casper62 - I've been looking at total-face on the web using some of the links other users have posted.
