Mike,

I just read your thread about the deconstructed Hybrid. VERY TEMPTING, I have to admit. I guess the thing would be to try it on the seal you don't use AS much. Do they sell extra seals that you can buy if you need to replace one? If that's the case, then there really isn't that much risk involved in taking a scissor to it except a little financial one.

I'm sending you my dissecting kit.

As far as waiting before "attacking" the problem, either the mask has to stretch so it fits into my Nares properly or I need to pound my head down about a quarter of an inch or so.

I thought the pounding of the head had a higher probability of success but the Hybrid calls to me to operate on it.

Finally, my Pre-Med training comes into use. Nevermind dissecting a frog or a pig, now I get to operate on a Hybrid- something I could have never anticipated back in school, but those keen skills will now be called to task.

Mike Moran has been very encouraging.

I am going to avoid Starbucks for a few days so my hands are steady, certainly don't want to injure the patient and be subject to malpractice.

You have given me a whole new idea.
What about weaving very cool wraps around and through the headgear to cover those plain straps so everyone could feel special in their designer headgear.

Lori, I think A Red and Black with Sequins for you. Or maybe Teal with a touch of black trim
Ric, I think you need that beautiful Cookie Monster fuzzy look.
And Handgunner, I think yours should be studded.

Now the tough one is RG, Perhaps something very new, how about mood wrap that changes colors based on her own moods. And I don't have to worry, because if she doesn't like it, she will change it and improve it....

Well, I have way too much time on my hands if my brain is entertaining more work......LOL

I cut the chin flap off of my large mouthpiece. Next I installed the medium pillows (in the low position), and got ready for bed. Oh, one more thing. RG would be proud of this one.
I slipped an old chin-strap (the kind with the hole in it for the chin), over the hose and elbow fittings. This will act like the ‘panty-hose’ strap others use on other masks.

11:00P – Installed mask, and went to bed. The mask is so much lighter and cooler without the chin flap. But because this is the large mouthpiece that doesn’t have enough chin-to-chin curve to fit me very well, I had to tie the chin-strap around the back of my head to stop the leaks. Warning: Make sure the chin-strap does not close off any of the passive leak holes.

1:30A – I woke up with very dry lips. I got a drink, and put on some Chap-Stik. Since my face was cool and dry, I turned on the heat to the humidifier.

7:35A – Wow! Now that was a great night’s sleep. Maybe I’ll cut the chin flap off my medium mouthpiece tonight.

Summary – Cutting off the chin flap was a big improvement for me. I can now run some heat on the humidifier, because my face is so much cooler. The chin-strap-tie-band was Okay, but I hope I don’t need it with the medium mouthpiece.

LOL! I'm always proud of ya, oldgearhead...never more so than now.

You write great descriptions of you lab-ratting endeavors. You, Mike Moran, and several others will bring that Hybrid to its knees before this is all over.

You are scaring me now! And I would say it's too much time on your hands, but you and I both know that's certainly not the case with you, Mrs. Creativity Goddess. And we'll talk about that black, red and sequin idea of yours for mine . I do love the idea of Ric's Cookie Monster one, though. And Mike is NOT from the Village People! I see Mike's more of a lumberjack, rugged type of headgear cover. What do you think?

By the way, adorable avatar! We finally see the real Karen under her PAC!

I cut the chin flap off of the medium mouthpiece, installed the large pillows

10:15P - Went to bed and went to sleep.

5:30A - Woke up feeling a bit of pressure on my nose. So I got up, drink & etc., installed the medium pillows, and went back to sleep.

9:00A - Woke up and feeling great!

This ends my posting to this thread. To sum up:
1) I think the 'cheek-to-cheek curve' of this mask will cause big trouble for lots of people. and the mask will be a perfect fit for others.
2) For me, I gained a lot by cutting off the chin flaps.
3) I suspect 10-12 days is about average to get a new mask to work.
