Okay, my friend. The mask is now on the other face (if you get my drift here). Now the pressure is on you!!!roztom wrote:Got mine today, Thursday. Did a fitting I am using the large mouth piece and large pillows.
The clips on the straps are dumb, why did they scrimp there?
I have tightened it down to stop leaks and during my daytime test/adjustment I leak a bit at the pillows. IF I could push them forward somehow they wouldn't leak but they do.
I am going to try it tonight and see what kind of leak and AHI I come up with and will let you know tomorrow.
All kidding aside, I hope you join the ranks of those who find the Hybrid wonderful and amazing. Unfortunately, I am not one of them.
I did try to get my son to try it tonight and he won't even give it a chance. Put it on him, the nasal pillows delivered "TOO MUCH AIR" for him to handle at 17 cms, and he said, "GET THIS THING OFF OF ME" and went back to the UMFF.
I may be one of the first to put it up "on the resale market." However, I was thinking of waiting just in case they add an XL pillow to the equation. If they do and mine is gone, I might be regretting letting it go so quickly. But as-is, it's definitely not a mask I can use. But I did try .

Fair enough Lori.
I'm joining you in the mask in the drawer club.
This mask leaked so bad at the pillows that 'I had to remove it after 6 minutes.
NOTHING TO BE DONE without either stretching the mask a 1/4 of an inch or shrinking my face. Face not shrinkable.
I'm using the large mouth and large pillows and it is just shy of a good fit at the pillows and there is nothing to do for it..
EXCEPT
I am going to take the medium mouth piece and remove the chin support from it. Mike Moran posted on a different thread his lab rating and I have no option but to go that way.
As this mask stands now, I can't use it The Doctor is coming in - scalpel here we come.
I might as well get some handicraft practice out of this, maybe basketweaving is next?
Best,
Tom

Hybrid Mask, Week 1, Night 9 Thursady
Tonight, Thursday, I'm using the medium mouthpiece with the large pillows.
The only change I'll make is to apply a bit of Marine Mask Seal to the mouthpiece seal.
10:45P - Put the Marine Mask Seal on the seal of the mouthpiece.
11:00P - I went to bed. I had several very small leaks around the corners of the mouthpiece. I lay on my back and adjusted the straps a bit. I could not stop this very small leak coming from the right corner of the mouthpiece. So I turned on my right side and rested the leaking corner on the side of my bed pillow. Ah, I did not hear any more leaks.
5:45A - Alarm clock! Time to get up. Wow, still not leaks, and I slept for almost 7 hours. A new milestone.
Tonight. Friday, I'm going to cut the chin flap off my large mouthpiece and give it another try.
Cheers,
JRS

Third night for me.
Thought it was better but morning numbers say NO. I can't tell subjectively because I am battling some sort of respiratory problem - cold or allergy attack.
Large cushion, large pillows. I moved the pillows to the "short" ring - worked like a charm, no pillow leaks. Seems like at the "long" ring there was too much tension or pressure on them and when they flexed they broke the seal.
Cushion leaks seemed manageable, even trivial but I'm tired and sick so perhaps I missed something.
There appears to be a large leak where the hose connects to the swivel or the swivel inserts into the mask. If the hose is positioned more that 30 degrees from the line perpendicular to the axis of the mouth it leaks (and makes a racket) with any sort of flex. 5-10 degrees past that the leaks seem to sort of go away. Between the high vent rate and these leaks Encore Pro is reporting a very high leak rate and > 60 minutes in large leak (some due to leaving the APAP running while swapping masks).
All-in-all it worked better last night than it did the night before but not as good as the first night.
I'll reserve final opinion for when respiratory health returns to normal (if it ever does) and I get some more comparable time with the interface.
I am pretty tired though - can't wait for the congestion to break and be gone so I can get some good time on my Swift (yeah, I know Tom, you can't fathom that can you?).

David:
I'm glad the Swift works for you.
I'm trying to figure out if I can use it for snorkeling.
Best,
Tom

I'm not so sure that is what I'm hearing but I'll pay attention tonight to make sure. I think there is a leak because all I have to do is just flex it a little without changing position and it comes or goes.oldgearhead wrote:Snooz - The noise you hear when the elbow is pointing up, is the air from the passive exhalation ports hitting the tube.
We will see.

Did that as well. I'm not too thrilled with that design but I guess simple is better than complex.mikemoran wrote:Snooz,
You probably do have a leak but probably not at the swivel itself. I noticed that when the mask leaks the noise is amplified at the swivel. Make sure the silicone is fully inserted into the hard plastic.
I'll check them all tonight but the kicker is - I flex the coupling just a little bit and the leak comes, flex it again and it goes.
I hope I don't have a faulty shell.

Mike,
Are you still using your Hybrid and getting good results?
Tom,
I'm sorry it didn't work well for you, either. But maybe, before you attack the poor defenseless thing, you might want to give it more than a night? Lots of people here said it got better and better after using it more than the first night. Plus, if you want to sell or swap it, no one will want it once it's hacked apart. Think long and hard before you do that. You never know what someone may come up with here, like the rubber band trick for the Aura/Headrest and things along those lines, and then you'll be wishing you hadn't rushed into surgery so fast.
Just my two cents, for what it's worth. Nowadays, I probably owe you a nickel.

I am seeing the same thing you are - sounding like there is leaking coming from the area of the swivel. And, moving the hose more to the side than straight down seems to make it better. Or putting pressure on the swivel also seems to help. I am taking a "vacation" for a couple days from the Hybrid, but when I try it again this weekend, I will see if I can define what is happening better.

Mike,
I'm so glad you're having success with it. I don't know what's going on with my email links to threads I'm watching, but I'm not getting most of mine lately. I will check on a thread and see there's been a lot of activity, yet I don't receive an email letting me know that there has been. I guess I missed your post on this subject, too. I will scroll back and look to see what you mentioned.
Maybe that is the answer. If there is no chin guard on the mask, then it won't pull the pillows out of the nose, as was happening with me. Hmm, now there is food for thought. Do I dissect the mask or just swap/sell it to someone else? Maybe I should try it on a smaller size first and see if it makes a different on that mouthpiece. If it does, then go for the size I think I really need to use. Thanks, Mike.
