Got My CPAP Machine

Post by davep700 » Tue Oct 27, 2015 7:29 pm

Hello I got my CPAP machine .. Was given a pressure of 12 cm h2o.

It's a Philips Remstar Plus C-Flex with humidifier. I was given a mask - Philips Resperonics Amara View.

It's a full face mask - I asked for a nasal mask, but was told that it's not known if I am a mouth breather, and I might develop mouth breathing in the beginning without the aid of a full face mask.

I'm having trouble getting used to the pressure that fights me when I try to exhale. Feel like I can't exhale fully. When I remove the mask after an hour, I feel the urge to take large breaths to clear my lungs out.

Also my nostrils are a bit sensitive and I couldn't find distilled water for the humidifer at the supermarket and need to learn how to make it at home.

Any suggestions?

What is the 3 digit model number on the bottom of the blower?
I you do indeed have the "Plus" machine then it is a brick...no useful data.

For water...use regular tap water for now. Depending on how "hard" your water is there may be some mineral build up show in the water chamber...no big deal..it can easily be removed with vinegar.

For your exhale problems...are you using CFlex which is the exhale relief? Play with the settings to see which is more comfortable.
Are you using ramp? If so, at what starting point for how long?

Hogwash...they are lazy. Get what you want. That's a load of crap.
You might or might not mouth breathe and that's the most stupid logic I have ever heard.

TAKE IT BACK......and make them give you a better machine. The "Plus" is a non-data-capable machine and will only report hours used. If your insurance is paying, they pay by billing codes and the billing code is the same for ALL CPAP machines......from the lowest end ones to the high-end Autos. In other words, they put their profits above your health. With that machine, you'll NEVER know how your therapy is working.

It's a REMStar Plus, DOM
REF 260P. REV 01 3.XX

It says it's compatible with the 'Sleep mapper' app.

I would suggest a fully data-capable one.......like a Pro, Elite, Auto or Autoset from those manufacturers.
Avoid models with the name "Plus" or "Escape" in the model name.
P/R has an exhale feature called "C-Flex Plus", which is OK. It's the model name "Plus" you want to avoid.

Sleep Mapper is about worthless. And, it will only report your "hours used".

Thank you Wulfman.

I have to admit this sleep apnea has really been taking a toll on my mental energy for reading and processing new information. A few years ago I might learn everything I can about all the models of machines, but these days I can only concentrate on the very basics. I was happy when I heard the machine had a humidifier.

I"ll try to get a new machine or at least a new face mask. Am I expecting a machine with a a USB port or something?

No, full data doesn't have anything to do with USB ports at all.
It has to do with the insides or firmware inside the blower.
You want at least model 460 to have full data and in the PR S1 line it is called PR System One Pro CPAP with CFlex.

No, all the System One machines have an SD card in them to store (whatever) data they collect.

I would suggest working on getting the machine swapped out before you worry about the mask. It may actually work for you.

BTW, Walmart is a good place to get cheap distilled water. It's 88 cents per gallon at mine. Make sure you get the distilled and not the spring or purified - it has a purple cap and purple distilled label.

Any water will work in the humidifier until you get the distilled but you'll need to clean the tank frequently. If you use distilled, you hardly ever need to clean the water tank as there are no mineral buildups.

I hope you are able to get a data-capable machine soon so you're not flying blind as to how your therapy is going.

Big whoopie...the model 260 is indeed compatible with SleepMapper but it's pretty useless information that you could also get from a clock.

What you get from SleepMapper with a PR S1 model 260 machine.
This is it...absolutely nothing else. If you were told differently then they told a blatant bold face lie.

Oh right, I should've made that clear - my screenshots are both for my 460 (PRO) model - dream mapper will not give you AHI or Mask Fit on a 260 (PLUS).

I called them; They say that this machine has all the data....

But I have an appointment tomorrow and I will print out those very helpful screen shots and have them show me how to get that info from the machine.
