Help! Hubby's settings failed him, stop breathing short time
For years he has used this machine successfully but recently he must have changed (89 years old) and he is having difficulty with breathing and more events. I am desperate as he has stopped breathing once for about a minute and this last week twice during the night, which is what I have tried to attach. (still learning how to do this) Cardiologist said his meds are fine but needs a pulmonologist to retest and perhaps change machine if his type of apnea has changed. But we cannot see this doctor for about a month. We need help now to maybe adjust his settings. Up until now, I have been able to help but now I don't know what to do. Anyone got ideas?
He uses a Respironics 760P Bipap with Biflex and a nasal mask.
Thank you, thank you!

No it didn't but look at the link in my post above this. GrayGhost has a link to imgur

Quite honestly at his age I would not wait for a month to see someone else and I would not depend on people here - some of whom are geniuses with machines, data, etc. - to look for an answer to what happened. You must get the GP involved if necessary because whether or not there is (new) cardiac trouble, something occurred and should be checked out asap. What happens is that you tend to think everything's about OSA or Cpap - especially if results have changed - but at his age very many things in his system could be problematic and certainly some might affect his sleep and/or Cpap, but that doesn't mean they are only Cpap related by a long shot and it doesn't mean other systems shouldn't be looked at... don't want to be an alarmist, but I'm sure you understand what I'm suggesting.
Re: Help! Hubby's settings failed him, stop breathing short time
janni-catt, we can definitely look at the machine report to see if we can spot anything. For example, where is the pressure at when events start happening and does the pressure have too far to climb (increase) to prevent them? Or are mask leaks causing loss of therapy air and allowing more events to happen? Those sorts of things can often be seen when we look at the reports.

At his age, you just get him to the doctor.

Thanks for your helpful replies. You are right, I do need a doctor now and on Monday I will try again by asking the GP to help expedite an appointment with the pulmonologist. And I am a member but have had endless problems logging in. First my password was wrong, I asked for a new one and followed all of that and then my username was used by someone else. (how could that be when I verified the name jannicatt with my email?) Anyway, when that didn't work, I tried a new name, janni-catt, and was told my email was already being used. Over and over I have tried so I must be doing something wrong. My original name was jannicatt and I altered it just to get on the forum. Soooo I have work to do yet to figure it out and I will try. In the meantime, I am desperately concerned about his health while sleeping and being upset is probably the reason I can't think through how to post this properly. But I will and would appreciate your help to fill in the gap until we see a doctor.
Thanks so much!

I knew I recognized your name. And I can see your earlier posts under jannicatt, not sure why you'd have so much trouble logging in.

You replied with:

Call the on call doctor now and tell him this. If there is no on call doctor to call, have him checked out at your local emergency room.
Re: Help! Hubby's settings failed him, stop breathing short time
Agreed. This isn't a time to be patient or polite. And don't assume he needs a pulm... just get him seen!

+1.
The problem with doctors is, it doesn't hurt them one bit.

+2... I agree, get him to the Emergency Room... could be any one of a number of things, not necessarily CPAP/OSA related.

Re: Help! Hubby's settings failed him, stop breathing short time
Thanks for your concern and good suggestions. The cardiologist just checked him over and said he needs respiratory help and I understand that. He wants to wait for someone specialized in that as he feels good during the day, sleeps well at night and will not go. Pretty stubborn although he know the consequences. So I am searching for intermediate help with machine settings. (and trying to get his chart on this).
