Smartstart, autostart, opti idle...funny how cpaps and big trucks have similar functions these days...

I would assume that the start/stop button is the same as an on/off button, btw.

The power button on top of the Airsense machine works just like the power button on the previous S9. You could think of it as a "Therapy" on/off button as it will stop and start the blower for therapy. And as others have pointed out the machine continues to blow a small amount of air after therapy has stopped for twenty minutes to help dry the machine out and acts as a cool down cycle.

But there is an additional function of the power button, if you hold it down for three seconds or so it will put the machine into a low power sleep state, just as the S9 would do. You'll notice that the back light on the power switch that is otherwise on all the time will go out. If your machine is in the cool down cycle and you want to shut off the cool down cycle for any reason you can push and hold the power button down to put the machine in low power sleep mode and it will stop the cool down cycle and the blower. ResMed does recomend that you let the cool down cycle run for the full period to eliminate any condensation build up after therapy. But putting the machine in low power sleep state after the cool down cycle is considered to be an energy saver mode, although the energy draw difference is minimal.

If the machine is in sleep state all you have to do to "Wake" it up is push and release the power button to put it back in "Stand-By" mode.

Thanks one and all I am starting to get the hang of it with all of your help!
Did okay for my first night, didn't yank the mask off like I did the BiPap in the hospital (but I was out of it and didn't even know I had it on). I don't think I slept any better but I definitely didn't sleep any worse. My machine gives a score so according to them I did well with a 92! No leaks and I did not notice any like I did during the titration. When I woke up I did take the mask off to give my claustrophobia a break for a couple minutes but put it right back on.

I am hoping tonight that I wake up one less time but if that isn't the case I do know that this isn't an overnight miracle cure.

That is a good start.
For many people the benefits the first few weeks are very subtle. You might want to keep a journal. For the first page think carefully and write out how you felt physically, emotionally and mentally before you started. Then try to ignore that page for a few weeks and just write down exactly how you feel. Try to write at the same time everyday.

I remember the first day after the first night. I didn't notice anything until the next day when I looked back and realized that "things" had looked "brighter" sort of like the tv had been focused better and been set to brighter colours. You may find that in a couple of weeks that you are seeing the ends of tv programs - this is especially noticeable when you watch the CSI programs.......

I sure hope the 92 was your MyAir score and NOT your AHI !!

Yes 92 was MyAir score. My AHI which they call events was 0.4 so I lost 4 points for that and 4 points for taking the mask off two of those were for unhooking the hose when I was setting up the machine.

Thanks BlackSpinner, I am happy with my first night, mostly that I got thru it without wanting to throw the machine across the room.

If I use the CPAP to take a nap would I assume correctly that the report will just add the nap to that nights sleep?
I took a nap today but didn't use the machine and must admit I had a really good hard sleep, the kind where you wake up and don't know where you are or what time it is.

Yes, the data will be included with the data you acquire that night.

If I get a quick nap from the recliner, I won't mask up, but if I take a nap from the bed, I will. Prevents the sleep apnea damage from occurring.
