And So It Begins
And So It Begins
Tonight is my first night with the CPAP machine and I am bound and determined to have a positive attitude. My goal is to keep the mask on all night. I am a little claustrophobic but I have had just over a month since the sleep study to get used to the idea. I can't remember what year I last had a good nights sleep so I am going to give this my best effort.
Now here is a stupid newbie question, I have a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet and I was setting it up for later and from what I can tell there is no actual power button, if the hose is connected it seems to run if I push what looks like the power button on top all it does it stop the report but air continues to come out of the hose. So I assume the hose has to be disconnected when not in use?

Re: And So It Begins
No it shouldn't need detaching... you're either missing something or it's been programmed somehow... don't have that machine tho' so someone else should chime in... Have you looked at the manual?
Re: And So It Begins
Given that you are claustrophobic, I wonder why a full face mask was recommended? Did you choose it? Are you a mouthbreather? I just wondered. Had I known that they had nose masks and pillows, I would have gotten a cpap 3 or 4 years ago.
I tried to take up scuba diving in my 20s, but just couldn't take the mask.
Anyway, YOU CAN DO IT! Maybe you should try sitting in your chair/couch and try it out for awhile to get used to it?

Re: And So It Begins
I have and it has an autostart and it suppose to start as soon as I start breathing but I didn't have it connected to the mask yet was only setting it up. I can call the DME tomorrow. That top button that looks like a power button and does actually say start and stop but not off and on. I am not usually this dense.Julie wrote:No it shouldn't need detaching... you're either missing something or it's been programmed somehow... don't have that machine tho' so someone else should chime in... Re: And So It Begins
ResMed machines will continue to blow air at low volume/pressure for a period of time after we push the button on top to turn it off. If someone is using an already low pressure they might not notice the drop in pressure.
It's normal for ResMed machines to do this. Not sure just how long but 30 to 45 minutes or so so that the hose and stuff gets sort of dried out a bit.
This blowing doesn't count towards therapy hours but will show up in the total run hours over a period of time.

cancun, your avatar made me chuckle!
I don't have the new machine either but I just came across this info the other day and thought it might help you get more familiar with how your machine works:

Re: And So It Begins
They used the full face mask which really isn't as bad as I though when they did titration because I didn't think I could handle something stuck up my nose and I am definitely a mouth breather.SewTired wrote:Given that you are claustrophobic, I wonder why a full face mask was recommended? Re: And So It Begins
Thanks Pugsy, I just thought I was doing something wrong. Luckily I don't have to worry about compliance hours or anything. My insurance is purchasing the machine outright. I did get an upcharge for the "better" machine of $150 but I have met my out of pocket for the year so that was less that what my copay would have been.Pugsy wrote:ResMed machines will continue to blow air at low volume/pressure for a period of time after we push the button on top to turn it off. I am sure I will have many questions as I go along.

Page 31 of the manual
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
Very bottom of the troubleshooting area....they say 20 minutes for the continued blowing to dry out any condensation in the hose.
I guess it just seems longer.

Thank you for doing my job for me! I should have kept reading but the logic in me would have thought that would be in the beginning of the manual!!Pugsy wrote:Page 31 of the manual

Re: And So It Begins
I knew somebody was going to try and suggest a different mask. If you think you might like the F10, stick with it. It is a very popular mask. Best of luck to ya'! Be sure to work all your issues here.

I wasn't suggesting another mask. As a newbie, enquiring minds wanted to know because for a similar issue, I didn't get a cpap a long time ago.Sheriff Buford wrote:I knew somebody was going to try and suggest a different mask. I read somewhere today that there is an energy saver option when you use the Auto start on your model machine. It's probably in the manual you got. You use that instead of shutting it off.
Your avatar reminds me of a joke. What does a 500 pound canary say? HERE KITTY KITTY!

I've never heard of anything like an 'energy saver' option. neither of the words "energy" or "saver" are in the manual.SewTired wrote:I read somewhere today that there is an energy saver option when you use the Auto start on your model machine.
there's also no 'auto start'. there is "smartstart' that turns the machine on when you start breathing, and off when you remove the mask.
