For me an objective sign that I am better is the nocturia. Before cpap I woke up every 1-3 hours with my back teeth floating, now I might get up once or even twice to go pee, but it's not an emergency -- more like "I'm awake so I might as well go." And if I do get up at 4am to pee, when the alarm goes off at 6:30 I don't have to hurry to the bathroom.

Having more energy sneaks up on us maybe a little slower than other effects.
One day, I noticed I could walk farther, work longer, and watch an entire movie without sawing logs in the theater.
One can hope to feel more energized, but realistically, only the negative feelings get our attention.
Years of suffering can dull our positive sensations, while it helps us cope with pain.
We can learn to be more aware of the good feelings, but it may take time, and perhaps a bit of concentration.

We forget how bad it was. It is your brains way of protecting you. I keep journals and before I moved I went through some old ones to see if I wanted to keep them. The amount of pain and dragging in them was surprising. You don't realize it when you are in the hole and you don't remember climbing out because it is so gradual.

If we remembered all the pain (of all sorts) there would never be a second baby. No one would take a risk of any sort.

I've been on it for 4 or 5 months now, does it take longer? My doctor told me that it was because I was years behind sleep. Is that a thing? Thanks guys! My AHI is down to about 1 to 2 a night, so it must be doing SOMETHING.
What are your machine/therapy settings? I see you have an S9 Autoset in your profile.

One thing to remember is that cpap is not the end-all, be-all to feeling better; there are many factors to consider. As the above posters have said, it kind of sneaks up on you and one day you realize that things are looking good. The important thing is that cpap is slowly improving your well-being, and if your AHI is around 1, the therapy is working well for you! There are many benefits to your health even if some aspects of your life don't seem improved.

For me, the clincher was that for the first time in my life it doesn't take an hour, or two or three, of counting sheep until I finally fall asleep! These days it rarely takes more than 30 minutes to get to sleep, and on top of that, I no longer need three or four potty trips every night, rarely more than one - maybe because I'm staying asleep for longer stretches of time. I still feel fatigued at times (doesn't everybody?), but I know that it doesn't matter any more.

EDIT: I've been on cpap for almost a year now. You asked if it takes longer than 4 or 5 months, and while it's different for everybody, yes, it can take longer than that, that's why it kind of sneaks up on you . The important thing is being able to sleep through the night and bringing the AHI down.

For me, the absence of the morning headaches was HUGE. I suspect the headaches were due to low oxygen levels during the night. The fact that they have gone away gives me hope that the damage to my cardiovascular system has also stopped - I don't know if it gets reversed. I still need medication for hypertension, but there has been no need to increase the dosage over the last few years (my CPAP years). I know I have more energy now than when I was first diagnosed with OSA (even though I am a few years older...)

So more or less just give it more time? I get frustrated because I'm only 19 and I have so little energy that I can't work or go back to school!

Maybe so or maybe your treatment is not optimal. Can you please post your SleepyHead charts? While your AHI may be excellent, there may be other sleep disturbing factors like snoring or flow limitations. And if they are normal, then it could be something else. But hard to tell without seeing your charts

A thread where we talk about how to post images and what to post in terms of graphs.
viewtopic/t103468/Need-help-with-screen-shots.html
and it also includes a link to how to use IMGUR to host those report images.
A much shorter and probably clearer read than the novel tutorial...

Those are summary charts. What about a typical daily chart? Press F5, make sure that among all charts Flow Limitation piece is also present, then - F12, which will save a sceenshot, which you can upload as those above
