ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
My husband and I both got these new machines about 6 weeks ago. We have both been on PAP for years and do fine. His pressure is 16 and mine is 10. Both are set for auto-off and auto-on. Mine is just perfect. His often will not turn off or will run for 30 seconds or more after removal. The DME consultant, who has been extremely helpful, says that this happens with ResMeds at higher pressures. Any comments/suggestions?? (Not that just turning the machine off is such a huge deal ) Thanks.

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
When turning off, the 10 will run for minutes on low pressure. Even if you manually you have push the off/on button. The objective is to dry out the hose if condensation occured.
I do not like this feature and to turn this device off completely, I just push the button longer. The blower will stop completely.

make sure your hubby's mask type and hose type (if not using a climateline hose) is set correctly. I've seen smartstart problems if the mask type is set wrong.lindalrc wrote:My husband and I both got these new machines about 6 weeks ago. We have both been on PAP for years and do fine. the DME is, as often happens, wrong. it's documented to sometimes happen at very low pressures.

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
No, the objective is to prevent any condensation entering the blower from the humidifier/hose, by having a small positive air pressure entering the humidifier and hose. Any drying in the hose is secondary side effect, but is not the objective.cpapernewbie wrote: The objective is to dry out the hose if condensation occured.

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
Protection for the blower makes sense -- good design. I also value that a lot to dry the air tubes and mask for good sanitation. I use the SmartStart (auto on/off) feature. The slow-blower, that kicks in following the few seconds of hurricane when I remove my mask, lasts for quite a few minutes and I like that. Is this a design feature for all the S9's? In what operating configurations Is the slow-blower supposed to activate? --only when the humidifier is connected? --only when SmartStart is being used? etc. Do you have a handle on the various kick-in modes? I have an AutoSet that doesn't seem to utilize this feature the way my VPAP Adapt does. Might that be a malfunction?billbolton wrote:No, the objective is to prevent any condensation entering the blower from the humidifier/hose, by having a small positive air pressure entering the humidifier and hose. It is in the manual for the Humidifier...Papit wrote:Is this a design feature for all the S9's? In order to assist the heater plate in cooling, your S9 device will continue to blow air for up to an hour after treatment has stopped. However, you can unplug the device from the power outlet at any time and allow the heater plate to cool without air flow.

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
Is the original question referring to the auto on/auto off (smart start) feature of the machine (turns off automatically when you remove mask) or the on/off (hitting the button) feature?

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
First two days I had my Autoset I used the Auto off, and it would run at high pressure for a couple of seconds and shut off. Sleepyhead would report it as a leak and max the leak chart out at 120. I started turning off the machine manually because I didn't like the data getting messed up like that.

not that it really matters, but when you take the mask off, the machine runs at very low pressure, but high flow because it's trying to maintain whatever your set pressure is.BobMC wrote:First two days I had my Autoset I used the Auto off, and it would run at high pressure for a couple of seconds and shut off. to have pressure, you have to have some restriction to the flow, like what the mask vents give you.
now, admittedly, the motor ramps up to full speed to try and generate some pressure, before it says "oh, right, you took your mask off" and shuts off.

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
Yup, that makes sense and, yeah, so what if the leak spikes when you take your mask off. It is a helluva "leak" all of a sudden. But the user knows what that ending leak spike on the graph is.palerider wrote:not that it really matters, but when you take the mask off, the machine runs at very low pressure, but high flow because it's trying to maintain whatever your set pressure is.Guest wrote:First two days I had my Autoset I used the Auto off, and it would run at high pressure for a couple of seconds and shut off. Help me out on this, though, palerider. I haven't looked at the graphs, but maybe you know in general: Are any of the (10-second) apnea data affected at the tail end of the graphs by the long slow-blowing air? (I think I recall that the recording software is designed to disregard certain 'obvious' anomalies at the beginning and ?at the end of a session.)

Re: ResMedAirSense Autoset 10 and on/off function
no, the machine can tell the difference between a mask off situation and a mask on but not breathing situation.Papit wrote:Are any of the (10-second) apnea data affected at the tail end of the graphs by the long slow-blowing air? the software doesn't flag events, the machine does, the software just reports what the machine records.
