What about system one filters?

Post by Eureka » Sat Mar 22, 2014 3:01 pm

I am switching over from the Series M Respironics apap to the System one. I really like it, but wonder about the filters. Is the black filter the same size and interchangeable? And the DME (Apria) didn't recommend using the white filter along with the black one. Those of you who have this apap -- do you use both as with the M series, or just the black one?

I'm not familiar with the sizes of the M series filters.
However, use both the white and the dark grey filters in the series One.
The dark grey one catches big stuff while the white one catches the ultrafine stuff.

Definitely use the white and black filters together. My white filter is gray when I change it out because it catches a lot of stuff.

I have both and I'm pretty sure the black filters and the white filters without tabs can be used in either machine as is. The white filters with the tabs don't fit the System One unless you trim them down a bit.

The black/gray foam filters are interchangeable between the M Series and the System One. The size is tiny bit different but not enough to be a problem.

I also use both the foam and the white fine filter...it gets pretty yucky looking after 3 or 4 weeks. I figure if the filter is catching that stuff I would rather it not make it to my lungs or into the inner workings of the machine. Just an extra layer of protection. It is considered optional by Respironics but not optional in my mind.

Thanks for the replies. I am just a month into using the System One, and am only using the black filter. I wasn't comfortable without using the white filter, but two techs said just the black one was adequate. I wash the filter every Saturday, but will order the white filters and use both. I use the machine eight to nine hours a night, and it just seems best to use both filters. Will order the white ones Monday.

nothing against other great ways to get supplies, but for filters (white ones) I had good luck with this person - http://www.ebay.com/itm/281100953074?ss ... 1497.l2649 - they were true Respironics one with their logo on it. So far so good with them - I change them in both my machine and my wife's machine every 3 or 4 weeks. I would never go without one especially after seeing one that has been used...

Thanks, pbriggs-- that's a good tip. I am placing an order today. BTW I am using the simplus mask now and loving it. Actually my numbers weren't that great at the first, but getting better. I guess it takes some time to get adjusted to a new mask.
This forum is great -- so many helpful people.

I have a number of the old M Series black and the white filters. Like Pugsy said the tab on the white ones can trimmed. I did that for a while but now just fold the tab. With or without the tab I have a problem with the filters coming out. I use a rubber band placed so as to keep that from happening.

I use both the black and white filters.
I could sure use some detailed help in how to place the white filter so it does not just pop out of the machine.
The tab on the PR brand white filters acts like spring to eject both filters.

Actually Respironics changed those tabbed filters not too long after the System One was released to help prevent that tab from pushing the filters out. The new ones for the PR S1 filter don't have the tabs and are a little lighter and more flexible and should stay in better.

If you are still getting filters with tabs...those are outdated. They don't really hurt anything I don't think but I remember reading somewhere about why Respironics changed and it had to do with airflow being better with the new non tabbed filters..in addition to the popping out thing.

Short of getting the latest filters instead of the ones designed for the M series machines...you might try cutting off the tab.
That's what I did until I used up my supply of M series filters when I got my PR S 1 machine.

Thank you Pugsy.
I have only had the PRS1 since October. So once again Apria proves to right up to date and helpful.

Yep...they are sending out old tabbed filters to get rid of old stock...and they are cheaper too.

I wish I could remember where I read the thing about the change in filters with the PR S1 but it had to do with air flow and effectiveness and it was kinda important...that's why they changed.

I think I have a spare filter laying around since I am using the S9 right now.
Send me a private message with your name and address and I will pop one in the mail for you to see.
It's a substantial difference and if it were me...I would want to be using what Respironics says needs to be used in the S1...and they changed it for a reason and it wasn't totally because the darn things kept popping out.

Thanks again Pugsy.
I called Apria and I will convince them to replace the tab filters with the newer 60 series filters ASAP.
So you can hang on to yours until a more needy/less vocal person needs it.
