setting time on PR System One
setting time on PR System One
Hi all,
When I download to Sleepyhead, the times are wrong -- it used to register about 25 minutes later than I actually slept, and now it's closer to 35 minutes. I believe it's my machine, not Sleephyhead that's the problem -- I tried to compare with what the technician downloaded on his professional software the last time I was in, but we were a bit confused going back and forth between the two formats and didn't definitively decide what was wrong.
In any case, I kind of use the data to keep track of when I actually went to bed (as opposed to when I intended to go to bed ) and when I woke up, and this really bugs me. The technician didn't have a clue how to adjust the time, either. Surely there must be a way of doing so -- I mean, what if I moved to a different time zone?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: setting time on PR System One
My understanding is that the PR machines have an internal clock set to UTC (or GMT, depending on where you went to school). The clock can only be set by a service technician (no doubt using arcane incantations). Seems like a silly system to me.

DeepBreathing,
You are correct: The System One's internal clock cannot be set via the clinical menu or the patient's menu and it is a stupid system.
Msat,
SleepyHead does have the ability to make a "time correction" in the user preferences. It's under the CPAP tab---look for "CPAP clock drift." Keep in mind that the drift is measured in seconds, so you'll want to multiply that 35 minute drift by 60 before you change the drift setting in SH

Re: setting time on PR System One
As already mentioned by Robysue and Deep Breathing...it's a known issue with Respironics machines of all ages and models.
The internal battery clock is often off from real time and most of the time it is late and there's not a thing we can do about it at the machine level short of the machine going back to the factory and getting a factory reset fix for the clock and a new battery.
You can do what Robysue says with SleepyHead and the software will make the correction. That's about all you can do if knowing the exact time the machine gets turned on is important to you.
We don't know why the clock gets so off with some Respironics. I have had 6 or 7 different machines over the years and my very first machine was a 2 year old M series machine with zero hours of use and it was only about 5 minutes off. Go figure.

Re: setting time on PR System One
And in 3 months you can send it in again, and again, because your xpap isn't a Timex, and it's clock isn't meant to keep accurate time. If you need the clock to match clock time subtract or add the error factor, but time is relative, what matters is the events and getting your Apnea controlled. Thanks for your replies; I'll stop trying to figure out how to make this change on my machine.
Robysue, I can't find that setting on Sleepyhead. The tabs I've got are Welcome, Daily, and Overview, and the menus I have are File, View, Data, and Help. The File menu has preferences, but I can't find anything to adjust for time correction or drift there. Am I missing something?
And Goofproof, if my issue were only sleep apnea, then I might agree with you about not needing to know the exact time, but I'm also trying to manage my sleep-wake cycle in general. Also, sometimes it's useful to correlate with something that happened in the environment, like a phone call or a power outage or whatever. Sure, it's possible to subtract the time difference, but it's a PITA and sometimes confusing. I keep daily notes, and I'd really like the times I write to correspond with the times on the chart. Last but not least, psychologically I'd feel a lot better with my sleep-wake times not looking even later than they are. None of this is a big deal in terms of my therapy, but if there had been a simple fix, it sure would have been nice.

What version and build of SleepyHead are you currently using? Go to Help and "about SleepyHead" to see version and build date.msat wrote:The File menu has preferences, but I can't find anything to adjust for time correction or drift there. Am I missing something?
It's there on the Windows version 0.9.3 build May 2013
Preference..then "CPAP" tab...upper right at the very top.

Re: setting time on PR System One
Ah, I've got an older version of Sleepyhead. It automatically gets updated regularly, so I thought I was on top of things. Do I have to download a whole new version of it?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Re: setting time on PR System One
Are you sure it is getting "updated regularly" because there was only one update ever?..most often what would happen was it would check for updates...tell you there was one...and then fail to install update because Sleepyhead didn't have Administrator privileges.
If you have older than 0.9.1 version...you need a total new install.
If you are seeing 0.9.1 and the update is failing...try opening SH with a right click of the mouse and select "run as administrator" and see if it updates to 0.9.2-something. I don't remember when the clock drift was added...it may have been 0.9.3 and in that case, yes, you need to install the new version.
If you uninstall the prior version your data folder in MyDocuments should still remain intact and I don't think you will lose anything assuming you have 9.1 version
If you have 8.8 version...just leave it on your computer and install 9.3 separately...that's what I did.

Re: setting time on PR System One
Ah, spiffy new Sleepyhead! I had version 8.8. I guess that every time I imported data, it informed me that it was "checking for updates," and I just assumed it was being updated! So I'm having fun setting all my preferences, and hopefully I can get the time correction right (will have to make a careful note of when I actually put on the mask tonight or take it off tomorrow morning).
Thanks, Pugsy!

Wow Pugsy!
Learning to set the time is so useful! I have set mine to minus 1800 seconds and it works!
I now can work out from my Sleepy Head charts what time I went to bed, which for me is a useful excercise.
Pity we cannot do the same with Resscan.
Thank you for that superbly useful tip. I am over the moon!!!

Don't need to do it with ResScan....The S9 has a clock that you can set so the time is exact.sleepinglass wrote:I now can work out from my Sleepy Head charts what time I went to bed, which for me is a useful excercise.

It's available in the clinical set up menu in the Options menu.

Re: setting time on PR System One
Sorry Pugsy getting myself confused!
I meant that I cannot set the time on my encore basic and my PR system one, like the other people have found.
At the moment when I go to bed, it believes I am going to bed at one o'clock in the afternoon, which is rather irritating, but not the end of the world thanks to SH.
I remember correcting the time on my S9 and that is really cool.

Re: setting time on PR System One
EncoreBasic doesn't have a clock setting (time zone) available...instead it uses your computer clock and the internal clock in the machine to calculate time...but it normally isn't a full day off or hours and hours off.sleepinglass wrote:I meant that I cannot set the time on my encore basic and my PR system one, like the other people have found.

The new day always starts on the machine at 12 Noon GMT time. Where do you live and just how much is the time off by?
When it says you turned the machine on at 1 PM..what time is it really?
Now EncorePro does allow a time zone adjustment...if you want to try to handle that PITA beast.
