OT: Sharing our hobbies
Re: OT: Sharing our hobbies
I am sorry I do not have a talent like painting, it does look like fun but I wouldn't know where or how to start. My work schedule doesn't allow me to pursue to many hobbies. But I do like to golf and take walks with my wife. My daughter and I would try new things together. Being blind in one eye makes motorcycling a little dangerous. But I do like to people watch at fairs and festivals. I am a good listener. I can help anyone with a project that they need to get done. I love to read books and I have several farm tractor books that have filled my head with tons of useless information. I am working on two books about WWI. Sleep apnea had taken away some concentration from me. I lose focus quickly and that does make reading difficult. I used to read for hours at a time on a Sunday afternoon.
Re: OT: Sharing our hobbies
WOW.......The talent, ambition and sheer guts here is amazing!! It has been a great Sunday Morning getting to know some of my fellow forum members.......Mark I have to say I very much enjoyed your piano and guitar talent. I have always admired anyone who can play. I took lessons as a kid, but could never grasp it. To all of the artists, your talent is just amazing!! Avi, the woodworking is beautiful! Huey, some of your pics, I could not even look at, I have a fear of heights! They are beautiful though........
No, I have NO talent, but I used to enjoy playing tennis for years....also, volleyball and waterskiing......Then after terrible auto accident in 1972, my whole life changed and bit by bit had to give up one thing and then another......so absolutely live your lives as if today were the last.
Thank you all for sharing.....very much enjoyed each of your gifts!

Re: OT: Sharing our hobbies
Back a few pages I posted a couple pics of me & my Goldwing. I'm now almost at the end of a 5700 mile solo trip from Idaho to Louisiana to see our daughter, a foster son, old friends I used to work with, old church friends, & a cousin in Missouri. What a wonderful trip in spite of cold, wind, rain, slush, and waiting a day in Denver for weather & road to clear over the Rockies! No question CPAP has helped me to be healthy enough at 69 to do this!

Oh, and astronomy, too. That's my big, blue 10-incher in the pic. (No, it's a telescope, silly!)
But why did you pick 3?

Re: OT: Sharing our hobbies
I was going to say "I play video games" but that sounds kind of lame next to mountain climbing. I have a massive fear of heights though, so I'd never be able to do anything like that. Just thinking of the first 10 minutes of Cliffhanger makes my hands sweat. I also have a podcast, that's sort of a hobby I suppose.

Not true. In particular, not if you feed the dogs a species-appropriate diet so that the anal glands do what they are supposed to do.avi123 wrote:The problems with male and female dogs is that when they reach an age of above 12 then they most likely come down with anal glands cancers. So you need to be ready with about $15,000 to take proper care of it if the cancer has metastasized. If you keep a hoard of them then you should be ready with a $100 grand just for these procedures.
I've had Dachshunds for 43 years. Never had one with cancer, until I lost my Sunny Lady Dachs to throat cancer last October.

Being allergic to all wool, I sympathize! THat is a beautiful shawl, and I love the idea of a cotton/linen blend.BlackSpinner wrote:The yarn is hand dyed, hand spun, fair trade, cotton and linen blend yarn from South America. Which is why each triangle is a slightly different shade. I alternated the 3 balls over the 8 triangles. It was lovely to knit with and it is very soft and not itchy (I am allergic to most animal fibre including baby alpaca - sob)

I've done free-hand embroidery, and counted black work style embroidery. I've done knitting and I used to make and sell capes.
Now I do cooking and recipe creation for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and I've gotten back into doing things with my Hounds.
Mr. Shadow is my special Dachshund Guy, aka the Great Galoot -- he is now 15 years and 7 months old.
Miss Babette is the Beagle I wasn't planning on.
Master Harper is the newest addition to the family, and he is working on his Championship.
Mr. Shadow did Obedience years ago but we never competed. Mistress Sunny, Shadow's litter sister, who went to the Bridge last year this time, made it through her initial class, at which point she was awarded a certificate for having successfully trained my husband to do whatever she wanted. I should note that she continued to do so literally up to the moment she left us.
Miss Babette and Master Harper start Obedience tomorrow. I don't know if we'll compete in Obedience, per se, but I'd like to try to learn enough to do Rally with them.

It is very frustrating. I was at the local yarn shop 2 weeks ago and they had this lovely lace yarn in beautiful bright "fall" colours - it was only 17% wool (the rest was cotton, polyester and silk) but it itched like crazy and I kept reacting even after we left the shop, even my hands felt creepy while handling it. But the colours were so wonderful I said to my sister that maybe if I washed it... but she laughed at me.
