I tried the tart cherry juice a few months ago. I drank 1/2 cup before bed for 5 or 6 weeks. It was 100% cherry juice and very tart. I really didn't mind the taste but it didn't help me sleep any better.

I read the tart Montmorency cherries were the healthiest to eat.
Sadly, all the dried ones have sugar added--if you can even find that variety.
Apparently, no one wants to trust us to eat something sour.

Wouldn't a "deeper" sleep actually increase the odds for obstructive apnea events? Sure, an APAP will react and minimize them, but why make it more difficult? You might as well take a sleeping pill. My sleep doc is very negative on any sort of sleep drugs.

OA is not the inability to sleep... It's the inability to BREATHE normally while sleeping.

Finally, some good sense in the thread.

Melatonin is a hormone the body produces. Melatonin supplements, whether in the form of pills or cherry juice, are only helpful for older people whose bodies are no longer producing enough melatonin to support a healthy amount of sleep.
However, when scientists conduct tests to compare melatonin as a "sleeping pill" to a placebo (sugar pill) most studies show no benefit of melatonin.
Melatonin is useful temporarily when changing the sleep schedule such as people on rotating shifts sometimes have to do. But the proper dosage levels are very small. There is a thread on this forum from this year explaining the proper dosages. Most of the supplements are much larger than the recommended dosages. Search for melatonin and Dr. Oz and you may be able to find the thread.

But the three pillars of sleep are: Good sleep hygiene, good diet and moderate exercise program.
My sleep doc is very negative on any sort of sleep drugs.
Absolutely!

Of course you first have to be able to breathe while asleep.

Five nights in a row, two good, three bad. Color me unimpressed.

So I mentioned that black cherry juice was almost miraculous for Pop's gout because anyone in the family could tell when his inherant chepness crept in and he quit drinking it. We would notice he was limping and then look to see if his left shoe was untied to ease the pressure from swelling. One of us would go get him a few bottles and in about a week he would be back to tying the shoe and not limping. It does nothing for any of my many maladies. My majic sleeping potion is called Ambien. Guaranteed 3 to 4 hours starting about half an hour after washin it down.

They also offer whole fruit pastes unlike any other (not dry powders) Tart Cherries contain natural melatonin (instead of isolated compound) and unlike Black Cherries which are very high in sugars, the Tarts help support healthy joint function. You're getting into a whole new field here...

I smell a spammer, not a skeptic.

I guess if someone is going to waste their money, they could do a lot worse that cherries or cherry juice.

Carry on.

Try mixing a few tablespoons with OJ or club soda. You can also get dried cherries, they are great in trail mix, on oatmeal, or baked in cookies, like raisins only better. A pie made with frozen or fresh tart (montmorencey) cherries or Balatons , a cross between tarts and sweets is a treat.Who says good for you can't be good. Kathy. Thanks for the link. I just received some unsweetened tart cherries from King Orchards and they are fantastic. Going to have some tart cherry juice tonight.

You are welcome, I go by the orchard often, good people and good products. Think I'll go bake a cherry pie, maybe it will help my arthritis , ( waistline , not so much. ).

I read that dried cherries don't work. Now I can't find where I read that.

They sure do taste good! I don't need the sugar in the ones at the store so these are great.
