Thanks for the info. I was not aware of that. If I could indeed train myself to keep my sinuses closed (to keep the back pressure from going out my nose) then the therapy would be hardly noticable.Peterau wrote:One other thing. The nose plugs are for training. Most people should be able to to stop using them after about 2 weeks. I did. Guess it is the test of a true mouth breather.
Fisher & Paykel oracle
[quote="Peterau"]Tooly,
My 2 cents since the thread is still active. I am on 9cm and have recently started using the Oracle. Like all masks it takes time to come to grips with the way it will work for you. Having said that the Oracle has taken a bit more effort than the others I have used. Like you I am also a mouth breather and thought it sounded like a good idea. If you have the oportunity to try one, do so, you will know very quickly if you are going to be able to use one. Couple of things, use the biggest internal seal you can and like most FFM keep everything as loose as possible, heated humidifier is a must and it will need to be turned up very high. My Oracle is now my very night mask with a UMFF as backup.

Another consideration for you (from your picture) is the facial hair issue. While I only have a mustache I found the whiskers made the over the nose mask very difficult to seal. With the Oracle the seal is between your teeth and gums so you really could look like a member of ZZ Top and it would have no impact on the seal you could get with an Oracle.tooly125 wrote:Hi RC,
Welcome to the forum
What pressure is your machine set at?
I am at 19 so I have to wonder if my wife would be getting nose plugs shot at her during the nite.
Oracle
First ----- am fully aware that the Oracle mask garners lots of negative comments from most folks on this forum.
MUCH TO THE CONTRARY from me ......
I use the Oracle and am verrrrrrrry pleased...
have used close to a dozen masks, including a couple of nasal pillows and have found EVERY one of them to have flaws ---- serious enough that I would contemplate further searching to find one with which I could sleep and be comfortable.
My search ended with the Oracle .. the first one became slightly worn and bedraggled, especially as I had "constructed" a Rube Goldberg holding device to keep it in place ... then the newer model came out with a neck strap and I immediately replaced the older one.
Nose clips/plugs have never been a problem FOR ME.
I had no trouble even the first night with keeping my mouth open and my nasal passages shut.... a continuing difficulty I encountered which are demamded by the nose/face items.
My second Remstar Pro --- first malfunctioned a bit and don't recall the hours on it ---- has 6000+ hours, so, while I'm definitely not a long term user of CPAP, I have been a hose head for a while.

Racehorse,
Your post is a living, breathing example of why there are no set rules in xpap therapy. What works for one person is someone else's nightmare. That's why we can never answer the question we hear all the time, "What is the best nasal mask to use," etc.
I absolutely could not tolerate the Breeze mask when I first tried it back in July of last year. Lately, I got a new one for my son, who didn't use it. So I tried it and am actually loving it. I am having great success with it and trade off with my Aura now all the time. Sometimes it may be a good idea, if possible, to revisit one that didn't work after some time has passed and see if now maybe it will work for you.
I'm glad you found the Oracle successful for you. Whatever works. Consider yourself lucky that you have found something you "enjoy" using.
