Anyone else use Johnson baby shampoo?

Post by KsUp » Fri Jun 28, 2013 9:26 pm

I use this and I use the remstar auto a flex machine and for some reason my water chamber, mask, etc always seems to have this slimy soapy feel inside of it even after I wash it with my hands and rinse it a ton

Why is this, is it the shampoo ? And should I just ignore it ? Cuz other parts have this issue too

Rinse the humidifier with water and vinegar.
Shampoo will always leave a slimy residue - it is designed to do that.
Much better is simple dish detergent like Dawn or Bonners Soap.

Any brand of dishwashing liquid is ok? Or ivory dishwashing liquid?

Dawn is best to remove oils and grease. That's why they use it on wildlife exposed to oil spills . A final soak in baking soda rinse helps bond with remaining oil on masks and such and makes it very fresh . I always rinse that off with very warm water.

Recently I have started to use this for my own body and also for my mask, dehumidifier chamber, etc.

At the gym I use this:

I used to use Dawn Direct Foam and loved it. Concerns over Dawn being too harsh for the silicone made me switch to Johnson's Baby Shampoo. I found a lavender scented baby shampoo and have been using it ever since. I haven't had any issues with residue, but I do a thorough rinsing after using it.

Hey...Here's my idea.....Use distilled water and never clean your humidifier.

I use Dawn for cleaning and vinegar and water in the chamber for disinfecting once a week.

I use distilled water only but still clean my humidifier weekly. I'm not a chemist but heating distilled water over and over must provide at least some opportunity for bacterial growth, if you simply add water daily to what's left in the tank, as I do?

I guess if you rinse out and air dry your water chamber daily, it would be less necessary to clean weekly.

Hi,
I have been using a cpap now for 1 1/2 yrs. I use Johnsons baby shampoo also and it works well for me. I wash all my equipment every sat. (1x wk). I use distilled water because we have well water. Even though I use distilled water the reservoir gets a musty smell. I empty it of water and put about 1/4 c. white vinegar/only in it and shake it well letting it sit for an hr. or so. The hose I coil up and fill with white vinegar/only arranging it so it does not run out. I let this set also like the reservoir. This seems to work well for me. I did not think I needed the cpap but my numbers were high and now I look forward to going to bed to rest. It did take me 6 mos. to get use to the cpap and even now on rare occasions I feel like it's suffocating me. There are times I wake up early in the morning 4-5 and take it off thinking I can rest better but inevitably I dream and sometimes wake myself gasping for air. I have this gasping some if I take a quick nap (in the recliner) during the day too. So, I would have to say I need it and it definately works!!!

Yes, I do. Plain Johnson's, sometimes generic, baby shampoo -- daily, for cleaning of all washable parts. I have never noticed any film or slipperiness, etc. Cloudiness yes, but apparently that happens regardless of what cleaner is used.

A shame the manufacturers have never flat come out and just recommended a brand(s) to use -- it would make things so much simpler.
