New user saying hello

Just joined the forum and wanted so say hello.

Had my first sleep study night before last after my current girlfriend, who is an MA at a neurology practice, finally kicked my butt enough about my habit of not breathing while I sleep. Now I wish I had done this years ago. Had 73 apnea events per hour and my O2 saturation hovered around 76 while I was sleeping in the study. The O2 number scared me more than a little. I guess that explains why I have been walking around in such a fog, heh.

Used the CPAP at home for the first time last night. Despite waking several times and having a bit of a hard time getting back to sleep each time due to the unfamiliarity and awkwardness of wearing the mask and using the machine, I still feel more rested than I can ever remember feeling.

Welcome. I am new also. I hear that it is often our sleeping partner that knows we have a problem before we do. I have just been on my machine for 3 weeks, and although I know I have a long way to go, I am beginning to feel better, and functioning better. Best of luck to you!

Thanks Yeah, I've had a string of girlfriends tell me about it for better than a decade, this one was finally just persistent enough, due to her medical background, to overcome my inertia.

Same story here. I had my sleep study ordered for months. I'm thin an didn't think this was an issue for me at all until my wife told me I quit breathing in my sleep one night. I decided to get the sleep study at that point! And, I have since been educated on being thin with apnea also.

O2 "hovering" at 76% would kick me into action also!

Welcome and great news! I just started at the end of March - also after several years of my wife telling me I would stop breathing and snored excessively.

Feeling really good these days; it just took me a little while to figure out the right mask.

Welcome to the forum, I have been using C-Pap and now Bi-Pap since 21Jun05 best birthday present i have ever had. I can tell you from experience that you will want to throw the mask and the machine across the room or probably out the window. Do not do it! Stick with it. I can tell you for sur that Sleep Apnea is a killer and you have just saved your own life. Good luck and the next best thing you have done is to join this forum there are a lot of great people here and there is wealth of information to be had here. Do not be afraid to ask a question the only stupid question is the question that is not asked.
