Has anyone had a "burning" sensation in their brain/head?

Post by Loreena » Thu May 16, 2013 4:33 pm

I'm having this problem now and it's miserable. An Internet search yielded possible causes as:

1. Allergies
2. Cervical disk issue
3. Brain tumour
4. Dehydration
5. CCSVI (beginnings of MS) -- narrowing of veins from head which result in iron deposits left behind in the brain, causing the burning feeling
6. Aneurysm
7. Damage from brain injury due to Alzheimer's and other similar problems--I'm worried about damage from apnea

I have an appointment with the doc tomorrow. Has anyone had this problem and how was it corrected? Thanks!

My sinuses 'burn' sometimes - and it can feel like my whole head is on fire from the inside out. I hope, for your sake that that''s what it is. The other things look pretty scary.

Is your pain anywhere along the pathway of the Trigeminal nerve? Trigeminal neuralgia is often described as burning pain.

Every now and then (rare) I get a physical 'tingling or fizzing pressure-like sensation' in my head if I don't get enough deep sleep, mostly due to insomnia. I don't know if that's what you are describing? I told my sleep doctor about it and he said: "We call that non-specific discomfort, it's a great phrase and we use it a lot when we can't quite pin something down". Har, har... what a joker my doc is.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

FWIW:

Nijmegen Questionnaire :

Rate the following where: Never=0 Rarely=1 Sometimes=2 Often=3 Very Often=4

__ Chest pain
__ Feeling tense
__ Blurred vision
__ Dizzy spells
__ Feeling confused
__ Faster or deeper breathing
__ Short of breath
__ Tight feelings in chest
__ Bloated feeling in stomach
__ Tingling fingers
__ Unable to breathe deeply
__ Stiff fingers or arms
__ Tight feelings round mouth
__ Cold hands or feet
__ Palpitations
__ Feeling of anxiety

___ TOTAL (See instructions below)

A score of over 23 out of 64 suggests a positive diagnosis of hyperventilation syndrome.

Thanks. I don't think I have a problem with sinuses, meaning I don't have phlegm or anything like that and my face doesn't hurt.

I read about Trigeminal neuralgia last night also and saw the video where the woman was jutting her jaw out and it helped the pain. I don't believe this is my problem, though. The burning is at the level of my temples and goes straight thru, side to side and is not near my eyes. However, last night the burning (pain) was so bad that pain started radiating down the front of my face. When I woke up, the burning was less, but I can still feel it, however yesterday was debilitating.

I saw this list last night also and I don't have any of the symptoms except the burning thru and thru to each temple. I also saw a lot of people have "burning scalp" syndrome, but I don't think this is what I have either. My brain feels 200 Farenheit. Thanks.

Thanks. I also read about brief periods of people having burning sensations, but this is lasting days for me. Also, I'm getting the best sleep ever lately. I've conquered using the Aveo with the mask while sleeping in the bed instead of the recliner. Last week I strained my back horrible putting together a patio deck and could barely walk for 2 days--then someone told me to take Aleve and it really helped. I'm wondering if between straining my back and sleeping in the recliner for a few days (and waking up with my back hurting)--did that screw up my back royally and thereby cause a disk problem in my neck which is causing the burning? I'm betting the doc is going to say get an MRI.

Consider going to the ER. This is sounding too much like stroke.

Another possibility is some kind of migraine, but I'm just guessing. I also think that you should be examined as soon as possible.

Indeed. The apptmt. is tomorrow at 11 AM. You all are making me feel like I'm not being frivolous about going to the doc. That's what I needed. I basically never go to any kind of doc--I never need to.

Please let us know how it goes.

Frivolous is walking around with a thermometer in your pocket and taking your temp every two minutes every day . . .EVERY SINGLE DAY. . FOR MONTHS - and THEN running to the doc when on that all fateful day you run a . . . 99.

Thanks. Yes, I will. At this point, I just want the sensation and pressure to stop whatever it takes. I think I have actually had this problem for months but kept thinking it would correct itself once I optimized the cpap therapy, which I just recently did with the help of the Aveo. I know now the burning has nothing to do with nightly OAs, which due to my horrible anatomy I seem to have a huge problem with (but not recently).
