New member, wired for sleep

Post by pootsie » Mon Apr 29, 2013 6:34 pm

I have been lurking here for a while, knowing I am likely to be hooked to the hose before long.

I am at the clinic for study number one tonight, scheduled for number two (with machine) next week "if needed" --- as if there is any doubt. My wife can tell them how often I stop breathing

Anyway, after all the lurking I've discovered that you are a friendly bunch, and I am pleased to join you. Now can anyone tell me why no one markets a mask intentionally designed to look like Darth Vader? I would totally buy one!

Ready to go:

Yours in slumber,

Welcome! Glad you found us and wishing you some zzz's tonight. This group will make you an expert hose-head in no time. Also, please share your results when you get them and we can help prep you for dealing with sleep docs and DMEs.

And hell - yeah! I'd buy a Darth Vader mask too! LOL

My mask makes me look like one of those WWI Doughboys goin' into battle. When I first started therapy, I scared my wife enough, though she's gotten used to it. I'm thinking probably the mask makers wouldn't sell enough of those masks you mentioned. Heck, I'm scary enough without it...Nice to see you in good spirits!

Mirage Quattro comes close, or it makes ya look like Top Gun material.
P/R fitlife makes me think of a big, strong firefighter.
Sleep well.

Thanks, everyone! I feel at home already.

I am indeed in good spirits. They had me fill out a written psych test a little bit ago, with possible answers ranging from "I am not completely depressed right now" to "please kill me quickly," with no option for "happy." Do I need to be depressed, here? Heck, I'm looking forward to getting the hose in my nose, and I will indeed share my results and questions with all you fine folk.

No a little relaxing, web surfing and practicing my ukulele before they plug me in and turn out the light.

Heh. It certainly helps that I'm a sci-fi geek! I always wanted to be a bio-mechanoid. (Not an assimilated one like the Borg, though.) Yep, I call it my Darth Vader machine, and am happy that it helps me sleep better. But then, I'm already eye-balling those newfangeled Google glasses, wondering when can I get a prescription pair. $6MM man, here I come!

Having a sense of humor will take you a very long way in this whole process. I am not kidding when I say that your ability to joke about the situation while also being proactive is inspiring! Good for you and good luck in the process.

What? You mean they got you all wired up, but are waiting to plug you in? My first tech didn't even ask if I was ready for lights out, just went over and turned off the lamp and I was left there, thinking "Now what? Oh, yeah... guess I watch TV a little longer since I would have to climb out of bed to get my iPad."

Good luck to you! Sleep well!

TV?! I didn't have a tv in my room I was in a room in the mega old part of the hospital. If needed to go to the loo, they brought a bed pan in!

They wired me up nearly two hours before bed

Best of luck to you. I was diagnosed July of 2011 and I still have fun with my machine. A little phlegm singing before bed wrecks havoc on your leak data but it entertains me.

Yikes, mgaggie! Was this recently? I know when my husband went through his about 14 years ago, it was more of a hospital like setting, hospital bed and all. But, they did let him get up to go to the bathroom!

In November sleepingbetty. I'm in Australia and it was through the public health system, so no frills. However when I went for my machine I was in the new part of the hospital with my own bathroom, and they unhooked me when I needed to go. Go figure huh?
