Another Newbie and software question

Post by mgaggie » Mon Apr 22, 2013 4:09 am

Hi everyone,

I live in the state of Victoria in Australia (starting to get cold here). I was diagnosed with OSA early March 2013 and started Cpap on 18 March. It has (and still is to a smaller extent) a battle getting used to the machine. But I'm determined for it to work, I need it work, its not fair to myself or my family to be constantly tired all the time. I'm sure I'll have many questions sooner or later, so apologies if you've heard it before.

I have a Fisher & Paykel IconAA, and am wondering what the software will show me and if its worth buying it? I was only given the absolute basics on how to use the machine from the sleep centre and that was it. I worked out how to get my average hours from the machine by reading the instruction manual.

A big thanks to Bob whom I chatted today in the chat room, made me feel quite welcome.

Cheers
Mel/Mgaggie

Hi,
Sleepyhead is free software which you can locate on the web by searching for "sleepyhead". I don't know if this software will work with your cpap, but you can give it a try. It provides a wealth of information about your cpap experience.

Also, Clinician set up manuals ( these provide information about how your machine works and how to modify settings) can also be found by searching for "cpap clinician setup manuals". You can see if your machine is listed there. I believe you have to join that forum to access the manuals, but joining costs nothing.

Best wishes.

Welcome! We are all here to help. I also started CPAP in March 2013 and after a short time on this forum have become very educated about OSA, my treatment, and my machine. I use SleepyHead software to monitor my treatment and post data here on the forums for advice when things aren't going well.

Here's the link to SleepyHead: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... =Main_Page

Go ahead and download and install SleepyHead Beta version.
There were some very last minute changes to SleepyHead right before Beta release and the F & P Icon will give you a few data points. It isn't quite as nice as the other machines but it should get you enough to have the basics that you need.

Your F & P Icon Auto leak line number to avoid is 60 L/min.
You should be able to get leak graph and events graph and AHI numbers and the breakdown at least to the point that F & P offers.

Links in my signature. I have seen SleepyHead reports from the Icon...so it can work.

Okay, I sent you a private message..so go check that.

Though I have 2 questions for you.
Are you telling the import/download thing to go to the root drive where the smart stick is sitting or are you going into the contents of the smart stick to a folder? The most common problem is people go into the smartstick instead of stopping at the drive letter.

Often the update for the Windows version of SleepyHead gets blocked and if it is blocked then SH won't work with the Icon.
What is the SleepyHead version showing in the upper left corner of SleepyHead?
SleepyHead version at install....is 0.9.1
After the first update...0.9.2-1.
If you don't have 0.9.2-1 it for sure won't work.

See this thread..first post. Jencat824 has the Icon and she got SH to work...she has an example of a report in her first post.
So I know it will work but maybe you aren't doing the navigation correctly or don't have the final version you need.

Save these instructions if you can get the Infosmart software to work.
I just stumbled on them and didn't want to lose them

Registering Your F&P InfoSmart™ Software
1. Upon first installing F&P InfoSmart™, a 30-day trial version of the software is
available. (and it WILL lock you out after 30 days, it did that to me) If you are after that 30 day mark, uninstall the software from your PC

2. To register the F&P InfoSmart™ software, visit http://software.fphcare.com/
com/ and enter in the required fields including your email address. An email will be
sent with a serial number that is required to register the software. (I did this and got the email, trick was I filled in my name as a COMPANY/ORGANIZATION when filling out the required fields, I don't think COMPANY/ORGANIZATION is listed as a required field, but the trick is if you aren't a company or organization, they won't send you the serial #)

3. Reinstall your software. Navigate to the Start menu  All Programs  Fisher & Paykel Healthcare 
F&P InfoSmart  F&P InfoSmart Server  F&P InfoSmart Administrator. Click the Register button and the form will appear. Enter in your Name, Organization
and Serial Number and click the Register button. The F&P InfoSmart™ software is now registered.

4. When you try to log in the first time, you will have to use 'admin'' as the name. Going thru the tabs, you can change this, I think. I just changed the password to one I wanted to remember & left 'admin' as my user name.

Thanks pugsy for everything its much appreciated.

I did only tell it to import from the root drive. The version is 0.9.1, I've tried updating it through the program, but it keeps saying failed. I've just found the update on SH site, installing now.

I've managed to misplace the USB stick from my cpap, and I'm ready to blow a gasket trying to find it. So I'll get back after I find it to give an update

Hi mgaggie and welcome. It is definitely worth getting the software (hopefully free) but if not then pay for it. I would not be without it because It keeps me informed about what impact any changes I make might have on treatment - eg tightness of mask, types of mask etc.. Not sure about your doctor but after my first check in visit he said he would see me in 3 years - very different system to the US

If the update won't install...do this
Right click mouse on SH icon and choose "run as administrator" from the menu that pops up.
Let SH open and then see if update will install.

Thanks snoozy and pugsy, back from seeing my specialist. I need to have another study done as the last one I didn't have any REM sleep.

This time I got copies of my reports, so now I'm going through them trying to understand what they mean
