My current family consists of:

Woody, who I adopted from a rescue group when he was about three months old, back in 2004. I was told he's part-Sheltie and would max out at about 35 lbs. Well, he's about 50 lbs., and I think he's part-coyote. He never responds to other dogs barking, but he always perks up when he hears the coyotes howling. Coincidence?

This is Turtle. He's a rescue via my vet. He's about 12 years old now. Is it obvious that he thinks he runs the joint?


And this is Niblet. She was a foster I took in from my vet about 18 months ago, when she was orphaned at just three weeks of age. I told myself I was just fostering her and would be giving her back to my vet when she was eight weeks old and eligible for adoption. Yeah, sure. Everyone who knows me knew that she wouldn't be going anywhere. I named her Niblet 'cause she was so teeny when we met. Here she is at about seven weeks:

They all sleep in my bedroom. Turtle's the only one who's ever shown any interest in any of my xpap equipment (in a good way, thankfully). He often shares my pillow, and he loves to rub his face against my mask and/or the hose when we’re settling down to sleep. He also likes to stick his face right in the airstream from the mask vent. Silly cat.

Hmmmm, lotsa cat people on here! For those of you with multiple cats....care to share your litterbox/smell tips? We currently have 4 cats, down from 7 at one point, and right now, hubby and I are at our wits' end. We both swear when these are gone, there will be no more! (No worries, they aren't going to get kicked out or rehomed, we're just over the smell, and I'm backing to thinking maybe we're dog people. These are all rescues and much loved!) They are exclusively indoor kitties.

Fresh Step cat litter!

Scoop the cat litter everyday and wash the boxes out often with hot soapy water.

But...Fresh Step made a HUGE difference! We used the same litter for over 10 years and decided to switch and we were amazed at the difference. It does a great job at reducing odor!!

I use swheat scoop litter which is a wheat scoopable litter. I like it because the dust doesn't set off my allergies like the clay and silicone type litters. And it is safe if ingested. There is also a corn version. We currently have 4 cats. We have had as many as 7 cats. We currently have 3 litter boxes, but only 2 are busy. The other one gets a little use.

I also use liners so that I can scoop easily, and when it is time to change the whole box, I can just change out the whole liner. No need to scrub the box.

Sometimes the smell is also worse due to types of food. For example, cheaper food often results in the cats needing to eat more and thus produce more poop, and sometimes smellier. And sometimes a certain food (even if a good one) doesn't agree with somebody.

Around here, the only smell is fro, Jay Jay as the poor boy isn't bright enough to grasp the concept that his front paws aren't near his hind end. So, he paws to cover, but doesn't even get close to covering what he produced. Good thing he's cute

It is so funny the different personalities they have, Mia came from a farm area shelter and is so layed back, Ms Lexi Doodle came from a well to do shelter where the cats had there own TV couches and chairs and she is a little Ms princess, her fur just has to be perfect and she will actually turn her nose up and snub you as she walks by

Here's my boy, Bart the Battlecat. He's about 10 years old, showed up about 8 years ago over at my girlfriend's house and established himself as the Alpha Tomcat (big deal in a colony of spayed females, huh) with a reputation for coming home looking like he'd been dancing with a buzzsaw.
He came home 2 years ago looking like he'd met his match, numerous lacerations, ear hanging by a thread, cut across his right eye, he was a mess and took months to heal up.
We had some new cats show up last summer amongst which was a female kitten. So we grabbed them all and took them to a clinic that was running a fleet rate on spay/neuter and had Bart done at the same time.
Talk about a change in personality! He went from being a fighter to an affectionate homebody, with a special liking for me. Last fall, he lost his fur on his underside (vet said fleas caused it) and he looked so pitiful the first sub-freezing mornings here.

So I took him in. Left him in the bathroom for 4 days until he figured out what a litterbox was for (cats do NOT "instinctively know", I don't care what the experts say) and after he got the hang of that he was promoted to Housecat First Class and given free run of the apartment.

He does NOT like my BiPAP machine. If he sleeps on the bed at all, it's on the opposite corner from when the machine sits, and he doesn't come to snuggle until I wake up and shut it off.

Hi friends, I am a 14 years old Harrier Mix male. Last month I was operated for the removal of my anal sacks
b/c one sack was found to be cancerous. The cancer has not metastasized. I feel great and hope to live 2 1/2 more years.

For both male and female dogs.

Costs of checking the anal sacks for cancer = $500

If cancer was found, costs of X-rays and ultrasound to check if the CA spread = $400

Costs of Surgery plus recovery, one night at the Vet= $2,500

There is also evidence that a triple approach, combining surgery, chemotherapy and

radiation therapy may result in the best outcomes, with survival times of approximately 2 1/2

years reported in preliminary studies. Radiation therapy is given in a series of daily

treatments, Monday through Friday, usually for 3-5 weeks. The cost for radiation therapy,

We have three cats and they have occasional outdoor visitors. From left to right, here are Theo (male, Red Tabby, 5 years old), Isis (female Siamese, 12 years old), and Theo's sister Cleo (5 years old, long haired by another dad).

Isis -- at a younger age, hanging out high on a basement window ledge.

Theo -- perched in the living room.

Cleo -- our long haired mess. She can't be bothered by anything!

One of the many outdoor callers who come by to visit. Ya gotta love 'em all. You know, Calvin Coolidge's wife had a house tamed raccoon. The First Lady kept her pet in the White House much like others have kept a dog there and was photographed holding it.
