Hi everyone. New to cpap and thought I would say hello. I have edited my equipment profile and am having a hard time with keeping my mask on all night. Seems I am subconsciously taking it off. Any suggestions to help. I did put a chin strap on to help and I did make it longer last night!

I have read lots of good information here and look forward to being an active participant.

Hi Thumper. Welcome to the forum.

Subconsciously removing the mask during the night and not remembering it is very common. Most of us have done it at one time or another. For those that seem to be making a bad habit of it we suggest maybe a little bit of tape over the straps on the face in hopes that the minor discomfort associated with pulling the tape off will wake a person up enough so they realize they are doing something they shouldn't and stop it.

With time and experience the brain normally comes to realize that it is okay for this thing to be stuck to our face all night and will quit trying to remove it subconsciously.

Pugsy told me almost a year ago to "put little tape on the straps". Guess what: It works

Try the tape and let us know how it works. If you still want another way to get used to the mask, try reading, watching tv or listening to music with the mask on. I still listen to the news with mine on. When I start to drift off, I reach over and hit the off button.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on getting started with your treatment. Also, welcome to the BiPAP club--well, it isn't really a club, but there is a subset of us BiPAP and VPAP folks here.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your therapy. I haven't had your problem, but have heard the tape suggested for others. Seems like a good idea until your subconscious becomes comfortable with the mask on your face.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I have taken my mask off while asleep too but have found that I do it less now that I am used to the sensation.
Tape sounds like a good idea.

I had this problem early on and resorted to trying bandaids (like tape) in hopes removing them would be uncomfortable enough to wake me and make me aware of what I was doing. Didn't need the extra help long. Once my treatment was effective as in leaks under control, adequate pressure, and I was comfortable with the new sensations, the behavior stopped.

Also a newbie to the forum for the past 4 weeks. Been using a BiPAP for 4 weeks and feel a lot better. Yea, it is strange to have a mask attached to your face as some describe as an octopus stuck on your face. I think it is high pressure of 18/14 but the ramp feature is enabled so I go to sleep before the high pressure enables. When I wake up in the morning it is so comfortable to breathe in and out I feel of the exhaust port on my Quattro FX to see if it is working. To be that comfortable the Sleep Specialist must have gotten my titration right. Have not seen the results from my SD card yet as I have a series 60 machine and experienced difficulty seeing the results. That's OK since I have a Doctor's appt tomorrow and she will analyse the results for me. I downloaded the Encore Basic 2.0 and it says it downloads the data but does not display a chart or graph. Maybe I need the Encore Viewer?

Encore has usually been backwards compatible. Would think that Basic would be able to read your card. It's probably a matter of either the settings on the machine or the settings in the software... unless you have a _60 model number. In that case I'm not sure if Encore Basic is setup to read it yet.

It does indeed show graphs and detailed reports. But the default is for summary usage only. You have to tell it to show detailed reports.

EncoreGuide link this will show you examples of what you will see. For a different machine than yours but the basics are the same.
