I have never been asked these questions and I do not agree they should be asked. Shouldn't they ask the gun question when people are purchasing a gun instead. They are using your personal relationship with your doctor to get information. And of they have electronic medical records the government could have access to it all.

It is against the law if you do not have a smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector in your home in new York. Should I expect a ticket in the mail if I mnswer no to my doctor....

Who are "they"?

Have you considering wearing a tin-foil hat during the interview to prevent "them" from knowing your thoughts?

The physician is not interested in specific information in the reply to the question (number of guns, make, model, caliber, SN, etc.). Rather, simply the nature of the response. For instance, if you start screaming about Second Amendment Rights, your name, address and phone number are immediately uploaded to the ATF database.

This technique is similarly used by Customs, TSA and other agencies who need to do mass screenings quickly.

"Gun control" is less about guns than it is about CONTROL.

So what are they waiting for? Our government has been corrupt -- i.e., not working for the people -- for decades!!!

I think that gun control should be about military-type weapons, huge magazines and bullet-proof vests. I don't have a problem with your having a handgun with a regular sized clip or a rifle.

Oh really? REALLY!?
The words were tucked deep into the sprawling text of President Obama’s signature health-care overhaul. Under the headline “Protection of Second Amendment Gun Rights” was a brief provision restricting the ability of doctors to gather data about their patients’ gun use — a largely overlooked but significant challenge to a movement in American medicine to treat firearms as a matter of public health.

The language, pushed by the National Rifle Association in the final weeks of the 2010 debate over health care and discovered only in recent days by some lawmakers and medical groups, is drawing criticism in the wake of this month’s schoolhouse massacre of 20 children and six educators in Newtown, Conn. Some public health advocates, worried that the measure will hinder research and medical care, are calling on the White House to amend the language as it prepares to launch a gun-control initiative in January.
Really.

I agree physicians are only interested on your health. But if you say anything that may lead them to believe there is an unsafe situation in the home they have to report it . It id part of their moral duty and they will lose their license of they don't report it. The agency (most likely cps if children are involved) they report it to will find out all the other information when they question you.

I am not saying the shouldn't ask. I am saying they shoulpoor d ask in a different setting. And yes some of the information is reported to cms (Medicare...which is the government).

By the way I have been working in the medial field for many years and have a licence myself to protect. I am fully aware of what could happen. That being said it is really up to the physician.

It's just part of the liberal anti gun agenda. Why not ask about chain saws, knives, machetes, baseball bats, flame throwers, alcohol or any other items people use to kill themselves and other people? Why? Because that's not on their agenda. Our country has turned into a political nightmare. Right is wrong, wrong is right, behaving badly is worshiped by our youth and patriotism and love of ones country and what makes it great has become the new "domestic terrorism". Welcome to hell.

Yup, just blame the liberals for everything Sheesh!

By the way, this evil liberal is horrified that a doctor would ask these types of questions. But of course, that doesn't fit into your black and white thinking about what liberals think or believe.

No, that fits. Liberals either want a law prohibiting the doctor from asking this or a law requiring him to ask this. Liberals don't trust doctors and the common people to be able to work this out among themselves. Liberals believe a central government knows best and should control these things.

I was not asked during my physical but I would feel the same way...why do you want to know and why do you care!

Thanks EMS:)

CG, you are too funny with your comments about liberals not trusting doctors and wanting laws passed to limit what they say. I honestly think you write those things just to see if you can get a reaction out of me. Or if you truly believe that, then you are really out in left field.

By the way, I was ranting, not whining:) You really need to learn how to correctly identify emotions:)
