Resetting Pressure on ResMed S8
Resetting Pressure on ResMed S8
Does anyone have any tips for lowering the pressure on this type of machine? I would greatly appreciate it.

It worked! I was able to lower the pressure from 13 to 10... I can't wait to try this pressure out. I think my sleep study was a joke... I have no clue how they landed on 13 as my titration when I did not sleep hardly at all after they put the mask on me. I feel like I am being sandblasted and have a feeling the pressure needed... to be dropped. I will see how I feel on this. Again, thank you so much for your help (it is rather interesting to see my hours of compliance, which is not very high because of some horrible nasal reactions I am having).

I see you're using the breeze like me. what type of nasal reactions are you having? maybe you need to look at the mask and not the pressure?
BTW - make sure you look at your AHI's on the new pressure to see if they increase or stay about the same. If you lower the pressure and it should have been higher, then your AHI's will increase and you will know to move back up again.
FYI - I use the auto version of the S8 and it automatically adjusts to the pressure I need each night. At the moment that's about 9.6, but when I have a cold it can go as high at 14.
And, the reason I ask about the breeze is that sore nares can be helped by the addition of the aussie heated hose which stops moisture getting between the inserts and the nares and so reduces sores. The heat also seems to soften the inserts so that they seal and fit better (I use medium inserts and thats how it works for me). There are solutions out there to help you get more compliant, it just takes trial and error to get there.

Dear Sir,
AHI - do I check that in the Tech menu? Thank you for the info... I was clueless on how to determine if the lower pressure will be effective.
An auto S8 - that would be swell!
My nares did get sore from the pillows, but that was not bad compared to my sinus issues. After about three days of use my nose, deep inside, would burn and tingle and water would pour out and the sneezing would be relentless. My eyes became swollen and watery as well. I think this may be due to my mouth hanging open while sleeping, allowing the air to RUSH out. I have a chinstrap coming in the mail any day now and we'll see if that helps.
I have not worn the cpap the last two nights and my nose is much better (not 100%, but getting there). In the meantime, I continue to have middle of the night sparring matches with my husband, who suffers sleep deprivation because of my snoring.

Guest,
I wish you well on your quest for a good mask. I use a f/f mask as it is the only one I can trust.
I bought a Malinckrodt 'Adams Circuit' nasal pillows mask & though it was a gift from heaven - all soft straps, sits so well on my face, seals well, moves well, didn't hurt my nares the way my Breeze had, but after using it for 3 weeks I found that even with a tight chinstrap, I seemed to be reverting to mouth opening repeated mouth air escape.
It was so sad to have to put that magic nasal mask to one side & go back to my f/f. I had hoped I could use the AC mask permanently. I do intend going back to it. I really want to use it because IMHO it is the best mask I ever came across.
Cheers

You should be able to check your AHI from either menu, the normal one you have and the clinicians menu you can now access. It is worth saying that the clinicians menu also lets you see the split between AI (apneas) and HI (hypopneas) per hour (for what it's worth).
I don't have the symptoms you speak of so I can't really advise - but dsm is one of the wisest heads in this forum, so I would listen to him and think about trying a full face mask if your chin strap doesn't work.

Oh thank you so much for all of your advice! I appreciate it.
I'm sorry to hear that the nasal pillow mask did not work for you at that time. I'm afraid to admit that it might not work for me, either. Do you have a FF mask to recommend? I've heard good things about Mirage. All I know is that the FF mask I wore during my sleep study leaked (and sounded like a farting elephant! )!

I have an Ultra Mirage F/F mask - standard.
It is the one mask I can rely on.
I run 1t 15cms but seem to have got myself trained to wear this mask without too much difficulty.
Last night I tried my AC (Adams Cicuit) mask again & had a restless sleep (but I do feel I got my sleep). My wife had a poor nights sleep as she kept checking me & at one point asked what was happening as my breathing seemed 'all over the place'.
I doo like this AC mask & really want to get used to it.
I will persist.
Cheers

The lower pressure, combined with the new chin strap and increased humidity seemed to make a difference in my cpap experience last night! I hope this continues.
Sircumference - I went through both the Clinician and Patient Menus and neither tells me the AHI. Perhaps it goes by a different term? There is some kind of long number that shows up, but I have no clue what it is. Any suggestions? I just want to make sure 10 isn't too low for me. My husband said that I did not snore at all... so that is a good sign.

Jules,
I cannot recommend a full face mask because I have not found one that works for me yet. The Ultra Mirage is the one that makes the terrible noises for me. I have tried it in 4 sizes and none of them work. They either leak horribly and make terrific noise or they are so tight that my head and face ache so that I cannot sleep. I have also tried the Fisher & Paykel Flexfit 431 and it feels really good until you turn the air on and again none of the seals work (it comes with 3 sizes).
However, as to your other problem, I had the exact same problem with a passover humidifier and an integrated humidifier, which I see you have (the integrated). Getting a stand alone humidifier and using it at highest setting solves the sneezy, burny, itchy horrible problem for me. I use the Humidaire with hose but I understand that the Fisher & Paykel 150 with hose is also very good and I plan to get one to go with my back up 420E.
As many have said, we all are different, and what works for one may not for another but this stand alone humidifier makes a world of difference for me.
When I first got a heated humidifier, I got the stand alone. My DME said it world work better than the integrated. But I really wanted the integrated for the convenience and space. I tried it with 2 different cpaps. But when I got it I was so miserable that I had to ask for the stand alone back. Both times. Maybe you can try a stand alone and see if it may work for you.
Good luck.

Skodobah,
To get to the AHI, get into the Clinicians Menu...Menu...Settings...down arrow...Results...enter...Efficacy Data...enter...Pressure...down arrow...Leak...down arrow...AHI...will show results for the previous night. If you push the button under day, it will show the results for the week & push again for results for the month. If you exit back to AHI & keep entering the down arrow, you get AI results & HI results.
Hope I haven't confused you too much. I'm sure other can explain it a lot better than I. Any questions, let me know.
