Leaky cushion on Quattro FX

Post by ugogirl » Wed Jul 13, 2011 7:02 pm

Hi! It's been a while since I've posted here. Hope everyone is well...

I'm having a problem with the cushion of my QFX mask. I seem to be getting a good seal between the cushion and my skin, but the past few nights I've had leaking near my eyes because the cushion separated from the mask. Last night I was so frustrated. I don't know how many times I woke up with the leaking. Finally got up and had to push the cushion back into the channel that holds it onto the mask. Has anyone had this problem ? I've had the mask for about 3 months... not sure if I need to replace the cushion or if it's defective.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Could be time for a new mask. 3 months seems to be how long they last for me.

I went to this mask from the F&P Zest, a month ago. I switched to the full face because of my allergies and bad sinuses.
The Quattro FX does the same thing to me. I hate the mask and have gone back to the Zest. I would rather deal with the additonal sinus problems, than wake up several times during the night because my mask has moved or is leaking.

Masks last a long time, but, the cushions usually need replacing at about 3-4 months. Most insurance will cover replacements at that time.

This is disappointing...I've been thinking about trying one of these, the next time I get a new mask...hmmm.

I'm so disappointed to hear that others have this problem too. I was using the regular Quattro and hated that forehead thingy, but I may have to go back to it. I had another bad night last night with the FX.I'm planning on calling my DME today to see if I can get another cushion. Maybe that will help. Seems that if this is a common problem, then it should be considered a defect. Thanks for your input!

Just bought this mask yesterday. $350 in Canada! Plus 13% tax!

I feel better; however, last night was challenging.

There are a number of videos on the ResMed site.

Here's a link to one of the that I found helpful.

http://www.resmed.com/us/products/quatt ... s&sec=true

I should have searched for these last night before wearing the mask. I was ready to quit! Let's see how things go tonight, now that I know more about putting the mask on and adjusting it. I thought I paid attention when I tried the mask on. The video will help me a lot...

Here's what I need to do:
* put the headgear on following the instructions (have both bottom straps disconnected at the start
* do up the bottom straps
* adjust the mask straps while lying down
* turn on the machine.

There are several changes here from my original ResMed nasal only mask. Mirage? So I have new habits to learn.

Good news ? I genuinely feel better than with my old mask. Now let's see if I can get a good night's sleep!

Go to clinicalsleep.com they are in Vancouver and the prices are comparable to U.S. I paid $175 for an Ultra Mirage ffm, no tax and no shipping charges. If you don't see what you want on the website you just ask for a quote. They will get back to you within 48 hours. It doesn't hurt to check out other prices.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

There was a recent conversation about the Quattro FX here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64958&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

I posted my comments on what has helped me get rid of all the leaks on this mask. I used the old Mirage Quattro for over a year and switched about 3.5 months ago toe hte Quattro FX. Initially I struggled quite a bit, now I couldn't be happier. Stick with it, its a great mask if you can figure out how to tame the leaks.

When I tried the Quattro FX, the mask to cushion connection was so poor, I returned it for a spare Comfort gel mask. So much for ResMed masks; out of the five I've tried, only one works--the swift FX.

Padacheek has the following items. It has kept my leaks to little or none. http://padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html
They also have covers for the lower strap which prevents strap marks on your face. http://padacheek.com/PAC_Original.html

I've posted--struggling with this mask.

I have had this happen with a brand new cushion. In my case it was because I didn't properly install the cushion notches (3 each ) into the mask slots for them. Then you have to make sure that the rest of the cushion is pushed all the way into the mask. This usually happens on deep cleaning day when I am in a hurry to get the parts back together. Then when I pressure check the mask at night it leaks. I have gotten into the habit of double checking the assembly
prior to leak testing at night.
For me this has been my best choice of mask.
