Encore Pro - Questions

Post by jawz » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:43 pm

To those using the Remstar and Encore software:

I installed it for the first time and will soon have my card reader. Looking forward to learning more. Here are some questions I have.

1. What kind of data gets recorded and reported?
2. What can you learn from the reports?
3. How many nights of data will the card hold?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

1. What kind of data gets recorded and reported?

The AHI for the night. Also broken down into how many apneas, how many hypopneas. How many Limited Flows (less restricted than hypopnea.) Pressures used. Percent of the night each pressure was used. What pressure (including pressures below it) it took to take care of events 90% of the time. Leak rate. If any "Large Leaks" happened. Graphs, charts. You can see all that info with just Encore Pro alone.

2. What can you learn from the reports?

Learn what pressures your machine uses for you most of the time. Learn whether your AHI is staying down nicely below 5.0. See if leaks seems to be a problem, and if you are having any "massive" leaks. See if you're hitting your max pressure setting any or much of the time. See how much time you're spending down at your minimum pressure setting.

3. How many nights of data will the card hold?

Five, I think....of detailed nightly data.

jawz, a lot of people like adding on Derek's wonderful "MyEncore" free program to their regular Encore Pro. I'm not interested in trends...just interested in seeing the the individual night's detailed data the next morning. I don't use MyEncore. I'm using only Encore Pro.

Hi...Restedgal's treatment of Encore Pro was great reading....especially since I just started using it last week myself.

I have also started using Derek's My Encore and find the Daily Report page especially helpful. Rather than giving only index figures, the program gives totals opposite the indexes (along with the index info) , namely the following:

Total Obstructive Apneas
total Hypopneas
Total NR(non-resolved)Apneas
Total Snores (like Restedgal, I suspect the Remstar is recording all sorts of stuff not really snores, i.e. sneezes, coughs, talking, etc...)
Total Flow Limitations
Total Time in Apnea
Fraction of Nightin Variable Breathing (how much time in REM sleep, I believe)
Average Apnea Duration

This summary of the nights sleep I use as a summary sheet and attach it to my Encore Pro data, which I print out on a daily basis. It seems to do a good job giving me a glance at the night's "activities".

Restedgal is great and has helped me make sense of all of this....what a blessing for us she and others with her level of knowledge are willing to be patient and explain all of this for us newbies!!!

At any rate, this is the little I know and feel comfortable sharing with some degree of confidence.

Basically, the data has helped me "fine tune" my pressure ranges to max out my therapy to reduce negative events. It has allowed me to be much more active in my therapy.

Happy Hosing

I also made up a form in Excel to save all my readings day by day, I hand enter them each card download. I am a Excel Freak. I set it up for everything. That way I can back up everything that happens, just in case.

This is Goofproof, as I am no longer able to log-in.

you can take your myencore output and copy it into microsoft works so I assume you can copy it into excel since excel is a nicer spreadsheet

I exported the data as a text file (default) and copied it into a blank spreadsheet then worked with that

I just deleted a bunch of the columns since I don't have an APAP and then sorted rows as I saw fit

I actually took two myencore files from different months of encore pro data since someone suggested you should keep no more than a months records per name in encore pro, put each into a separate spreadsheet then combined them with copy and paste.

to answer one of the original questions, I get 7 days worth of enhanced data on my smart card for the Pro 2 (non-APAP)

after that the only thing left is complaince information

Thanks Rested Gal for all the good info about the Encore Pro software.

I know this is horrible, but what is AHI? I'm such a rookie. Can't wait to get my card reader so I can finally see what is happening while I sleep.

I was a little disappointed that I will not be able to see my old data (for the months using my retired masks). Was hoping to see how the data compared with the results I'm getting from my Aura Headrest. Oh well, can't complain; at least I finally have a mask that I can tolerate.
