Auto Adjusting cpap questions

I want to get an auto adjusting cpap. Realizing I am going to be on this therapy for a long time I want the most comfortable treatment possible. Any suggestions on a particular unit. I have heard raves on the respironics unit. Plus I already have a RemstarPlus. Could you guys give me input on the most comfortable unit experiences you have had on an auto unit.

I can only speak about the REMstar auto as I've not tried the others. I *think* it's the only one that can do cflex while in straight CPAP mode. I have a rather low pressure requirement (7cm) and have mine set on auto between 6 and 10. I have cflex on the middle setting. I don't use ramp. It's been a very quiet and pleasurable experience so far (almost 3 month now). My previous machine was a straight CPAP. A Respironics SoloLX. I like the auto MUCH better.

The REMstar Auto with C-flex would be a great choice... you'll be abel to use your exising heated humidifier if you buy the current model. Respironics is coming out with a new version of all their machines. The Auto should be out sometime between March and June of this year.

I was lucky enough to start out with a Remstar Auto, and I think it made all the difference in helping me accept therapy. With the C-flex on, and the self-adjusting pressure, it hasn't felt forced or hard to exhale, like I noticed on CPAP during my sleep study.

Having just transitioned from a straight CPAP (no C-flex) to an Auto with C-flex I can easily recommed APAP as the gold standard of care. With the right assistance and education, the patient with an Auto and the software can really achieve a level of therapy not possible with the straight CPAP machines.

I would consider the SA Vantange (I think that is ResMed's auto model) as well as the other makes (I have a Remstar Auto w/C-flex). For me, the software issue won me over to Remstar as a member of this forum whom I trust found the Remstar software more informative.

Get Rested Gal's imput, Perry's and SleepyDave's....these are some of the folks whose postings I have found most helpful.

I really like the idea of data from the software. Any idea if any of the software works on a mac? If not I can crank it up on my windows laptop.

I have the Resmed S8 Autoset Vantage with the H3i humidifier, and can't say enough good things about it. It is small, easy to travel with, very quiet, and the humidifier reservoir is easy to fill and clean. The autoset mode has worked really well for me, and it does give you a good amount of info each morning about how well you did that evening. Hope that helps!

One more for REMstar, sorry about the MAC, The software comes in two versions, Win 2000 & XP or WIN 98. You need a USB Port (preferred), or Serial port. add MyEncore and you have it all. You need a special card reader. Post are here for what, everyone used the USB.

Hey Gang,

I ordered the REMstar auto and software last night. I will set up a windows laptop so I can use the software. Or.... this may be a GREAT excuse to get one of the new intel macs that can run windows as well...he he! I am definately going to get a heated hose because rested Gal has me convinced because of her input on them. Here is my question: I know we are "supposed" to change our hoses every few months... does this remain the same for the very expensive aussie heated hose?? BTW where is the best place to get a heated hose. I live at the beach in Florida but like to sleep in "Alaska" LOL!

Don't confuse the frequency for which medicare and insurance companies will pay for a new hose with the frequency for which hoses need to be replaced.

If you take care of your hose and don't let mold grow in it, it should last a long time. (But, hey, I've only been doing this for a month so far, so what do I really know, anyway. )
