To click or not to click, that is my question....I plugged in the card reader, inserted the CD and got this message. (and I thought reading the data was going to be an issue, I can't even install the card reader!!!! )
Any help will be much appreciated.

Bonnie,
Make sure that you install the software (Encore Pro) BEFORE you plug in your card reader. I think the DT3500 install software might be the same deal. When you get the screen you posted, click "Continue Anyway".
You should be fine.

Bonnie,
In case you're wondering, this is a common error message for hardware drivers. Many of the hardware manufacturers have decided not to pay Microsoft fees for testing their drivers. . . Guess they figure most of the folks installing the drivers are technically savvy enough to ignore the message.
I play around with PC's more than I should and I've seen that message more times than I can count, even from top line manufacturers.
Regards,
Bill

Bonnie, look at this topic:

Should help with the install of the card reader driver. DO NOT install the one on the CD. Use the one on the link I reference.

Thanks, guys.....I'll keep you posted on my progress. Tomorrow morning I'll install the software first and then follow Jerry's instruction for the install of the driver.

An update on my card reader install....
It is not going well, I've read all the posts recommended, I feel so inept. When I try to open MyEncore I get this message:
Unable to access EncorePro data base
SQL Server does not exsist or access is denied.
I have EncorePro installed and can open it fine. I haven't installed the card reader as I thought I needed to get both programs installed first. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? If I can't do this on my own I will wait from my friend to return from Europe. (I'm like a kid with a new toy and can't figure out how to play with it. Frustrating.)

Hi Bonnie, did you install this driver from the "sleepyman site"?
"setup.exe" drivers file URL to driver for card reader is on "sleepyman's" website.
That might fix your problem. Did you load the 2factors driver from the CD or the 2 factors site? You should use the site - not the CD.

These are the steps my husband and I recently went through to install Encore Pro and MyEncore. This has been written several times, but after we fumbled around and uninstalled and reinstalled many times, we finally got it down pat. Plus, we even managed to get it installed on 2 computers.
We have Windows XP (pro and home editions):
You can purchase a reader for $30.80 (includes shipping from Hong Kong to the USA). I used a credit card, some pay via Paypal. It takes about 8 to 10 days to get to the USA. This is the one I purchased for a desktop:
http://www.2factors.com/index.php?sp=&p ... s=&lang=en
Do NOT use the CD that comes with the reader. You will get a driver from the 2factors site (see below).
1. Download and install the free Respironics software from the respironics site below. For a new installation use Encore Pro version 1.5i (this installs both the software and MSSQL server).
http://software.respironics.com/cgi-bin ... ge=[Encore]
2. Run the 2factors DT3500 for a USB desktop “sliding and portal” (that’s what we needed for the reader we bought). You want the “installers for Encore Pro” at the bottom of the screen. Do Not Use the CD that came with the reader… Go to this site to run the driver:
http://www.2factors.com/index.php?sp=&p ... s=&lang=en
3. Next you want to run the “setup.exe” driver file from “Sleepymans” website. You access it thru this forum and this is the page you will find it on: Just click on it and say RUN:
viewtopic.php?p=58727&highlight=free+do ... nics#58727
4. Last, you download and install MyEncore Ver. 15b7 from here:
viewtopic.php?t=6057&highlight=
Anyway, hope that helps to get you started off right. If anyone sees any additions or corrections, please let me know and I will update this and post it every so often.

Bonnie,
My Encore will only work after you've downloaded date into your machine from the card reader.
Encore Pro goes to the machine and get the data.
It writes the data on you hard disk in a data-base.
My Encore looks for the data in the database, reads the data, and presents it to you in a user frienly, patient friendly way.
You're trying to run My Encore without giving it data - and that's what it's telling you. Nothing to worry about - you're not inept, just taking the steps a little bit too carefully.
Install the card reader. Download data, and then try My Encore again - if it doesn't work then, uninstall and reinstall only My Encore.
O.

I installed as directed in Linda's post. I opened Encore Pro and added me as a patient. When I tried to open MyEncore I got this message:
Failed to load resources from resource file. Please check your set up
Which setup do they mean? On Encore Pro I clicked on SmartCard Utilities and clicked setup but got a warning that if I continue I will erase data from the card. When I clicked on Download data I got a message that SmartCard not detected.
I'm looking at the card reader with the card inserted and the red light is on.
Ozij... I am inept, I couldn't get the card out of the machine...lol... ... My fingers couldn't grasp and pull it out. Thank goodness there is a little hole in the card, I used a pencil to slide it out.

Hi Bonnie, sorry you are still having problems. When we didn't follow the exact procedures, we had to uninstall - because we didnt' follow the correct sequences, etc. It was very frustrating to go back and try to correct to get everything to jive.
You have to get the green light.
First worry about Encore Pro. Did you ever get Pro to work? You have to download your card into Pro - did you get that to happen?
Once you get Pro working, then go onto MyEncore.

Linda, it seems that everything is installed. Encore Pro is fine. My computer is not recognizing the card reader. Am I to use the CD that came with it for anything else except the driver? I did download and run "setup.exe" from Sleepyman's website. I uninstalled everything and re installed again still following your steps. Is it possible I need to disconnect the card reader until after everything is installed? I can't quite get what I am doing wrong.

Bonnie,
You might try a different USB port. I've seen instances where one or more of the USB ports don't work or work right. Also, if you unplug the USB cable on your card reader, your computer should make a noise when you unplug the card reader and re-plug it in (and usually give you an indication that it found hardware). If it DOESN'T make that noise, then that's a clue that something isn't installed correctly.
If you're using Windows XP, you can also go to your "Control Panel", then go to "System", then go to "Hardware", then go to "Device Manager" and in there, there should be a category called "Smart card readers". If you click on that, the DT3500 should be in there. If you see a yellow "thingy" with an exclamation mark in it, that means that the smart card isn't installed correctly.
Anyway, check that out and let us/me know what you find.
Isn't this "fun"?

Hey Bonnie, sorry you are still having problems. Here's another couple of thoughts:
Do you have windows XP? or what version of windows do you have?
How can you say "Encore Pro is fine" if you can't get the card to work? Did the card work with Pro?
Are you still getting an error message and what is it?
When you go into Pro, if you click on Preferences in the upper right corner of the screen, then click System Settings, is the USB circle marked on the left side under SmartCard Reader? USB should be marked.
No, you need nothing from the CD that came with the reader.
Once Pro is working and reading data from the card, then you won't need the reader again until the next reading. MyEncore will use the data from Pro.
I don't think it makes any difference if the card is plugged in before you open Pro or not. I've done it both ways.
Good Luck and don't get discouraged. Keep us informed. (sorry, I guess that was more than a couple of thoughts)
