Congrats! This is motivating me to NOT go in the kitchen and eat one of the amazing chocolate chip cookies that we baked today!

That's great. I just saw that thread about a week ago. I watched the Gary Taubes presentation and it made too much sense not to try it. I noticed a definate change in my energy level as soon as I cut the dense carbs.

I've gone from 319lbs to 237lbs eating primal, and the best part is not being hungry all the time. Congrats on your weight loss....keep up the good work.

Can someone link to the thread about nutrition?

Dr (whole grain) Oz was on one of the morning shows today encouraging people to give up grains and starches for a week. He was referring to people who are "addicted" to sugar/carbs. That's a switch for him.
I only miss the distilled and fermented ones.

Hi, As a diabetic I have to watch carbs. I used to do Atkins so this is not too difficult for me especially since the diabetic diet allows more carbs in one meal than I used to allow all day on Atkins.
I know that a lot of us with OSA also have diabetes. I do well with the dlife website. They have many great recipes and and a whole section on healthy eating. Even if you are not diabetic you might find many good ideas here for healthy eating and weight loss. I love a lot of the recipes and have a nice collection of them.

Dr Bernstein's book got me started, followed by Mark Sission's Primal Blueprint. Robb Wolf and the blog "free the animal" are also good sources of information.

Quit eating the crap (processed food) that is in the standard American diet, nicknamed SAD in the paleo community and eat real food and you control you blood sugar and therefore your weight. Really simple.

And the most important point of all that I proved to myself, it's 80% what you eat and only 20% of what you do that works. I used to walk 3 or 4 miles a day and continued to gain weight. Now I walk only 2 or 3 and I'm down about 80lbs. Don't believe me? Good, try it for yourself.

But I was eating real food. Brown rice, legumes, whole grain breads, vegetables, fish, chicken, pork... Just like the agriculture industry says to do!

Interesting. I'm reading You On a Diet: Waist Management by Roizen & Oz, and so far they haven't said anything about grains, other than eat complex carbohydrates.

Is this Bernstein's book that you're talking about?

Do you have Diabetes?

I would like to eat healthier. I don't have much weight to lose, but I used to be able to eat much of what I wanted (NOT gallons of ice cream or chocolate or anything, but candy a few times a week, pretzels and low fat popcorn every night), and I weighed less than I do now. I know there aren't many people I will get sympathy from that I can no longer eat what I want, but after a lifetime of not having to be as careful as other people about what I eat, it's hard to suddenly accept this. I think could better accept it if I could shift my attitudes from deprived of what I used to be able to eat to I'm developing healthier eating habits. Not sure what to change to, though. Some say carbs at night are OK, some say no carbs at night. There's only so many times I can eat an egg white omelet at night or a can of tuna. And I'm still not sure that's the best approach to losing a few pounds. Dr. Roizen & Oz's book is pretty good, but I'm already at their ideal "waist" size (they prefer that approach than pounds). Any recommendations, including book recommendations, for someone like me?
