Joking IDEALLY makes people laugh, including the recipient or subject of that joke. Therefore, joking is ideally a gift we decide to bestow on other people. We want to make ourselves and others feel good by joking and laughing. But verbally assaulting people under the guise of a joke is not at all a gift we are bestowing on others. Rather that kind of joke is delivered as an insult with the intent of demeaning that person. The term "ButtUgly" is not a kind thing to say to anyone under ANY circumstances----unless that person agrees to and expects that kind of humor because they too find it fun...
