Bike ride greatly reduced due to greatly increased working hours. Its weekends only now. But now its cold out so I'll have to get a trainer.

But the money is good .

Why complain . I have 2 full time jobs. Some folks dont have any

I now get to fly my plane after work at about midnight. Air is calm . Sky is mine

Jim,

I'm just shootin' the breeze with y'all. Nothing very informative in the past couple of posts, if you read back. But that is one of the best things about this site, is the wonderful people. Forgive me, please, if I don't always contribute worthwhile postings. Sometimes I like to just touch base and chat. Sometimes we silent types have to just spread our wings and fly, so to speak. In my case, it's just opening up and having conversation with people since I tend to be on the shy side .

Chrisp,

You amaze me! So now a trainer, flying your airplane and have two jobs. When someone told you to get a life, they didn't mean two or three...if you complained about being tired, no one could fault you, that's for sure.

Lori, you bring up an excellent point. I think it's a fantastic idea that we all use PMs MORE and the general forum LESS for the "shootin' the breeze", and "chatting" posts. It would certainly alleviate the inordinate amount of congestion we've been experiencing here on the forum in the past few months. This thread is a perfect example, as many of the posts are actually personal comments directed from one person specifically to one other person (and of course, the resulting replies are similarly specific.)

I've discussed this issue with others (via PM, of course!) and the most often suggested solution to return the board back to a more general audience of participants relating specifically to OSA, is the encouragement of PMs to be used for the "other stuff". I was composing this "Using PMs vs. General Forum" topic in my mind this morning when I ran across your above quoted posts and realized you had already made the suggestion!

You are so right! PMs are definitely the way to go. When we see new replies on any given thread, we'll know we're not going to get the feeling we are third parties listening in on a personal conversation, as is sometimes the case.

Good going, as usual, Lori!!!!! You beat me to it!

Neversleeps,

There are also times when someone may write that they missed something that was written in a post and I hate to keep filling up the specified thread with redundancies, not to mention the casual chatter. I am one of the guilty ones, too, so I am not finding fault with anyone that doesn't include myself. I just think maybe we need to stay more on topic or PM each other with those things. Glad our great minds are thinking alike.

If y'all want, I can set up an area just for Hose Head Social Club on my message boards. I certainly have bandwidth to spare.

But to be honest, some of the SOCIAL goings on help too. I'm not JUST the machine I'm hooked up to or the mask I wear. I'm a person as are all of you.
Maybe the mods of THIS message board could simply create another section. Keep this one as is and make another one called Loyal Order of the Hose or something... just for social banter. If we have a general, non-technical, and maybe even non-cpap discussion (gasp!)... it would just go into the other section. If it TURNS technical and cpap related, bring that discussion over into this section.

One of the nicest parts of this message board is that it's ACTIVE. That means if I *DO* have a question, I can be reasonably sure (and this has already been the case) that I'll get a response rather quickly. And sometimes that's just moral support and that's helpful too.

The offer stands though. If you want a place to have a purely social and NOT CPAP-related discussion area. I'll set it up. Takes just a few minutes. I would simply have some reservations about it not being HERE and therefore some of you that are so active and HELPFUL... ... might not be here to help someone when they need it.

Well, this not-so-great mind disagrees.
I mean, sure, PMs are great for personal private chit chat (and that's where the chit chat really should be, or in an off-topic section, as was suggested).
But if someone misses something that was written in a post, maybe others, especially newbies, might have missed it too. I mean, it's one thing to go on and on and on and on about the same old tired theme. But if a specific issue or fact is missed by more than one person, then we all might learn something.

But you do have a point. One would "hate to keep filling up the specified thread with redundancies, not to mention the casual chatter." And you make another good point. It's not just the casual chatter that can go on and on and on. It's those redundancies of the same old tired themes that can make people turn away. ........ Hello? Where did everyone go?!

LOL!!!

Linda,

The wonderful thing about having posts is that they remain in print for all to read, and reread and read again without the author having to rewrite and rewrite, etc. If someone misses something, it is rather easy to scroll back and read it. It shouldn't be necessary to repeat it in a new post because someone doesn't scroll back. And most of us are more than happy to provide links to past threads that apply that someone may find helpful if they happened to miss it.

Don't get me wrong. Like I said, I am guilty of gabbing away off-topic a lot, hence 3k posts. And I love people and speaking with them. But maybe we should stick as much as possible to the topics of the threads that people start and maybe take Yardbird up on his kind offer to have a chat forum offshoot from this one, that was designed to help cpapers. Have you ever started a thread that really mattered to you, got a few replies and then had two people go off on a conversation relating to nothing about what your thread asked for help about? Can be a little frustrating. And, I'll repeat, I do it, too.

This should really be a place where great people come to help each other. I'm not saying cut out all human kindness and the discussions that can result, but maybe we all need to keep a more focussed eye on the topic more often. That's all.

Stepping down of the old soapbox here, I wish you all a nice evening.

I say post away! This forum is more than just cold hard advice. I like to "know" who's giving the advice and without all the chit-chat that is not possible. So, I say, all the chatter is just fine with me and IMHO it's a necessary part of the exchange.
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!
