pros and cons of used cpap

My insurance my company switched to is terrible. In one year in co-payments I can buy 2 used machines. Anyone here buy a used machine? and if so where do you suggest to go get a used unit. What brands to stay away from?

My old insurance co was $13 a month, now its $43 and blue shield wont buy the machine until I reach $2000 out of pocket in 12 months. Hmmm 43 X 12 will never reach $2000

That does suck. but if that is the deal then I would just consider a new machine and be of and running cpap.com and cpapauction.com both have good prices the later even has used. als Craigslist is a good souce.

a brand new S9 is around 1200 + a mask and that is with humidifier and climateline hose

The bummer part is I needed one more month on my old insurance and they were going to purchase it for me.

Hi,

There is a web store from western MN that sells used machines. Last time I looked, they had new but left over S8 machines, both CPAP and APAP, for around $300. I bought a used BiPAP from my DME and got a great deal. Both are good options. I'd avoid Craigs List unless you have a way to clean and test the machine. The S9 and PR1 are around $800 new. Both are great machines, so that might be the way to go.

I purchased an S8 Vantage from cpapauction.com for around $150.00.

My insurance purchased an M series autopap with c-flex and I used it for over 2 years.

I feel that the Vantage gives me better therapy (it doesn't have exhale relief but I find I don't need it -- my pressure currently runs between 11 and 12).

Other machines can be had for reasonable prices. You will need to have your script on file to buy from cpapauction. Just be sure to check feedback and shipping cost should be figured into the cost as well.

I have purchased mask and other accessories from there as well.

Yes, second wind cpap dot com, sells gently used machines, but they also have some brand news ones, too. I just bought a brand new Intellipap Auto w/Smartflex (brand new product) from them with humidifier included for $469. The prices on their used or refurbished machine are very reasonable. The are highly rated, and work to provide older/used machines to those who cannot afford to buy at all. I found their customer service to be excellent!

Im still not even use to using the cpap, have had some tough times, but my wife says I do not snore and when I have no leaks and dont knock the mask off I seem to feel better. I quit using it for 6-7 weeks because the house was hot and I was just getting frustrated. Im gonna give it a go again with my sights set on success.

Hi,

EPR means exhale pressure relief. Some folks find it hard to breathe out under pressure, especially for those at higher pressure levels. EPR senses when you try to breathe out, and it drops the pressure by a few points. EPR of 1 means drop by 1 cm of pressure on exhale. EPR of 3 means drop by 3 cm of pressure. People who are on a really high pressure level can get even more relief by using a BiPAP machine. For example, my pressure level is 20, but it drops down to 13 when I exhale.

Please try CPAP again. If you saw what untreated OSA can do to your heart and learn about how it causes cumulative brain damage, you would be sold on CPAP at any cost. You don't want to leave your wife as a widow. You would run into a burning building to save here, wouldn't you? If so, then look at CPAP as being the same kind of thing, just a whole lot less painful than fire. Do it for her.

Please post when you have issues. For example, there are options for the hot hose. You can turn off the humidifier, and run it in passover mode. That can be a lot cooler. Or simply turn it down a bit. I need higher humidity, so I put my A/C on 71 degrees, and I run a fan in my room. That cools the air so I am cooler, and I get along with the hot air a bit better. Keeping the machine lower to the floor also helps.

This Intellipap model does not have Smartflex, however.

I am in the process of buying a new S9 AutoSet CPAP with heated humidifier and Climate control. I found one website sell by individual asking for $975 (and it can be a bit lower if I bargain) which is cheapper than most authorized dealer ($1123). He/she even tell me that it comes with two years warrantee for the machine, but I don't know how truthful it is. If that warrantee is not valid, it isn't worth it.

Does anybody has an experience buying from an individual seller?
