ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
I've seen mention that there has been an improved ClimateLine hose over the ones that were originally shipped. Does anyone know how to tell if a hose is the "original" or the "improved" model?
Re: ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
Does anyone have an answer to this question?

The ones that come with it now are a darker grey, and they have orange at the ends, and inside the connectors, I have never seen the older ones so I am not sure what they looked like.

Possibly the best source for an answer would be cpap.com. I would think they have had to deal with the issues from the original hose and could answer your question concerning the new one.

Yup, I ordered a new S9 with a heated hose and it's from CPAP.com.
It is dark gray with orange ends inside.

Can anyone verify that the earlier ClimateLine hoses were NOT dark gray and did NOT have orange inside?

I ordered mine about 3 months ago, and it had the dark grey and orange. Not sure if that counts as "older".
Re: ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
Thanks, Cloudy.
I'd like to know from someone who purchased their ClimateLine around the time they first came out (Feb./March?) if their original hose had dark grey tubing with orange inside.
We've been hearing that ResMed was redesigning the hose, but I'm wondering if the new design is actually being sold in the U.S. yet or if what we're describing may, in fact, still be the original design. Even recent purchases may be leftover original-design stock from ResMed's warehouses, I would think. Just wondering....

Re: ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
I'm planning to order one from my DME before winter (and before my calender year runs out--new deductible)
Maybe if I ask really nice for the 'new' model and bring home-baked brownies, i might get it?

Saving mine for winter time when the room is chilly and the blowing air inside the tube is warm and damp. Manuals says not to use a hose wrap.

I was told by cpap.com not to use a hose wrap with the heated ClimateLine hose, but I've never seen that in any ResMed manuals. Where did you read that?torontoCPAPguy wrote:Saving mine for winter time when the room is chilly and the blowing air inside the tube is warm and damp. Manuals says not to use a hose wrap.

Re: ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
It was in the service manual for the climate control hose; it described in detail the results of using any kind of insulating wrap on the hose. It effectively causes the low voltage heating element of the hose to overheat and either (a) melt through the plastic of the hose, or (b) melt the low voltage heating element itself. Surprisingly it also mentions a caution against potential fire hazard but I believe this to be a Cover Your Butt statement, like gun manuals that say "don't play with firearms and keep out of the reach of children" (duh?). I think that once upon a time they were getting a load of returns with air leaks as a result of overheating of the LV element shorting due to plastic melting, which effectively acts as the insulation for the LC wire. Lump sum resistance and you potentially get a high current link I suppose, like a toaster element. I would imagine the current version of the user guide probably has an insert warning of misuse. Personally, I think that the heat generated by the LV element is Sooooo low that even with a cover the temp would not rise very high and certainly not sufficiently high to melt plastic. I am guessing that the LV element itself was breaking from metal fatigue and causing a pin hole to be created which would, of course, expand with time and pressure. Wave a dead fish in the wind and you draw attention away from the dead whale on the beach.DreamOn wrote:I was told by cpap.com not to use a hose wrap with the heated ClimateLine hose, but I've never seen that in any ResMed manuals. From personal experience over the years with heating elements on electronics (I'm dating myself perhaps) our greatest source of grief was always the heating elements that would go and it got to the point where if we got a two-way radio in that was 'garbled' we would immediately go to the 'oven' housing the crystal that controlled the frequency and 99% of the time the oven element would be shot just from extensive use and heat deterioration.... swap out the wee 'oven', insert the crystal, let it warm up for a couple of minutes and you were back in business. A long, long time ago but like it was yesterday. Ditto the cathodes on vacuum tubes.... there was always a debate on whether to turn them off and on or just to leave them on to prevent deterioration from heating/cooling cycles. Never did find a conclusive answer to that question. I always left my vacuum tube radios on so that the temperatures were stabilized when I sat down to sue them. Simple enough.
This does not answer the question of course of how to tell the difference.... but at $60 a tube I am not going to lose any sleep.

I agree with Dreamon ,i do not think that even if the new design was available to us,that the Seller,Dme or any of the online store's would want to sell us the new redesign hose's until their old stock was used, and that is unless Resmed would have a recall on the old design hose.Originally when i started cpap about 4 month's ago i got the s9 bundle thru my Dme and it included the climateline hose as part of the bundle, and i just got the quartely re-supply last week which also included a climateline hose and i checked it against my previous hose and they appear to be identical color, lenght, and the end terrminal's.Bottom line is that i think that even if they are available out there we might not get them until the present stock of hose's are used.. Still I would like to Know the difference even tho i have not had any issues with my currently used one.

Re: ClimateLine Hose how to tell "Original" vs "Improved" Model
Thanks for explaining that in such detail, toronto. I haven't read the ClimateLine service manual. There is no mention about not using a hose wrap in the User Instructions that came with my ClimateLine hose.torontoCPAPguy wrote:It was in the service manual for the climate control hose; it described in detail the results of using any kind of insulating wrap on the hose.
This subject came up here on the forum a month or so ago when I posted a thread to inform everyone that I had been informed by cpap.com that ResMed was no longer selling their tubing wrap for use with the heated ClimateLine hose. They had been selling it for use with that hose previously. Now it's just marketed for their SlimLine hose. I wasn't aware that the caution was in any of their literature, so that's good to know.
That was my thought exactly. Since there's no actual recall on the ClimateLine hose, the suppliers would just sell their old stock first. Plus, I'm thinking that ResMed may have had excess stock of the original design left in their warehouses as well, which they'd continue to ship to sellers until that stock is depleted.ZQuest wrote:I agree with Dreamon ,i do not think that even if the new design was available to us,that the Seller,Dme or any of the online store's would want to sell us the new redesign hose's until their old stock was used, and that is unless Resmed would have a recall on the old design hose.
I have two ClimateLine hoses. I purchased them both about two months ago, and each are dark gray with orange inside. Hard to say if they're the original or newer design, since nobody who purchased one of the earliest hoses (Feb./March) has said what theirs looked like. It doesn't really matter to me, though. Since the problem with the original design was that the hose tended to tear near the rubber cuff, I reinforced that area with Rescue Tape as soon as I started using it. No problems with the hose, yet anyway.
