Tonight 1ST Night?
Tonight 1ST Night?
Well the lady is supposed to bring my machine by in few minutes so I guess I am entering a new different phase of my life. Hope you guys will hold my hand when I need it. I am really looking forward to this because I am really hoping I will begin to feel better soon. I know it will be tough getting used to this thing but I am ready to start. How long before a person starts to notice a difference in how they feel. I know this would be different for each person but there must be a general amount of time that most people start to notice a difference. Well here I am, A Newbe. 1st night tonight, wish me luck

Welcome to the forum!
Don't expect any overnight miracles, depending on how much sleep debt you have accrued due to lack of oxygen and constant awakenings through the night, it might take some time before you feel better, sometimes people feel better in a week and have more energy and are less drowsy but some it can take months.
Please create an account and login and post your machine details in your signature when you receive them so we know what you have and people will be able to better answer any questions you have
Thanks
Dave

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
Of course, we all wish you good luck tonight. But be aware, there are VERY FEW of us who experience the MIRACLE of great, refreshing sleep our first night on PAP. *sigh* For most of us there is an acclimation and even sometimes an adjustment period that varies from person to person before we reach our ideal sleep w/PAP and mask.
You really MUST let us know what equipment you receive when your lady arrives! We sure hope it is a brand and model of CPAP that can provide Leak, AHI and AI data easily. The mask is such an individual thing, what works great for one can be an absolute disaster for another, but we'll want to know which mask you got too. If you have problems w/it there most likely is someone in the forum who has had the same problem w/the same mask and can share some hints or fixes to TRY to make it work for you.

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
Try to associate very positive feelings from the start. Spend some time getting familiar with the mask a few times before bedtime comes around. Think of your equipment as a new friend, not a thing to be dreaded. You're gonna do fine!

I am assuming that you live in WV. I am shocked that there is a DME here who comes out on the weekends! Anyhow, good luck.

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
Got my machine, it is a Philips Respronics System One. Remaster auto A-Flex whatever all of that means. I have the Comfort Gell full mask. I tried it when the lady was here and it did seem odd but really no problems. After playing with it some I think it might ride up to close to my eyes but just have to wait and see. I usually take a nap during the day but didn't today so I would be really tired tonight. A little excited and a little dread. Not sure what to set the vaporizer setting on, it has 1-5 I think, I guess maybe 3 would be a good place to start. Any thoughts on the machine and mask I have? Will try to report in tomorrow.
Thanks everyone
Thanks everyone
Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
I would go with 3, that way if you need to go up or down you can. I hope it works out for you tonight

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
The machine that they gave you is a good machine.
The mask is a good starter mask. It might take you a couple of days to get used to it. Ihad that mask when I started C-Pap treatment 5 years ago.
Good luck. and again welcome to the forum.

wvbike_99,
Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on getting your equipment today. I agree that starting your humidifier at 3 would probably be best; that gives you the most wiggle room. Sweet dreams!

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
Well I made it, went to bed about 11 and after 3 ups and downs adj. mask, trying to get the humidifier right, then the machine kicked off for some reason but I think I finally went asleep at about 12. Had to get up 2 times for bathroom breaks but managed them ok. About 6 this morning is when I had the most trouble. Mask was leaking and it seemed like it was really blowing harder. I am a mouth breather and it inflates my mouth which is a sensation I do not care for. Also seemed like the machine and mask were very loud this morning. Maybe I just needed to go ahead and get out of bed. Not sure if I am going to get along with this mask or not but plan on giving it a good try. I was able to sleep on my side so all in all I think it was a GREAT SUCCESS. I even think I feel a little bit better this morning, after coffee I am ready to go, usually takes a lot of coffee. So there it is, 1st night went very good. I am on my way. I will have lots of questions. Great Forum.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
Welcome, sounds like you have a good attitude and that's important. As for the mask, most DMEs have a 30day exchange policy so if the CG is giving you problems ask to try another. The Quattro and Ultra MirageFF are very popular ones. I presume you're a mouth breather and need a full face. There are lots of tips here on how to fit a mask properly. The ones I mentioned come with a CD which is helpful. Let us know what your pressure settings are. Good luck and keep us posted. Dori

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
I'm happy you feel your first night went well! You've got a place to build from now. I have the same machine and think it's excellent. You can get the respironics encoreviewer software and look at each nights sleep to see what's working and what's not. Like those mask leaks, you can see if they are leaks that are hurting the therapy or just leaks that are controlled by the machine and not to worry about...unless they wake you up of course!
I have a quattro mask and it's doing pretty good. I want to try the Comfort Gel so I'm gonna be reading your posts about the mask and if you end up liking it or not. One thing I learned early is that once you learn to seat a good fitting mask you can get a good seal without the straps being as tight as you think they need to be. I started out tightening the mask about every night, but now I find myself adjusting it looser and looser without loosing seal.
Best of luck and keep us updated on how it's going!
