OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
Ok, Ladies! What remedies do you have for hot flashes?...medicinal or alternative! I've tried to keep the bedroom cool in all this summer heat...but the hot flashes are waking me up in the night. All that combined with OSA is making it hard to get a good night's sleep! Thanks in advance!

Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
I have a fan that I keep by the bed. My hot flashes and night sweats have greatly reduced since starting cpap therapy!!!!

Sleep nude as it is easier for your body to adjust your temperature. There were studies done on this but I don't have the linksSleepyT wrote:Ok, Ladies! Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
I've been having a problem with this for YEARS-- I think it's the longest peri-menopause in history--at least 9 1/2 years since my last child was born.
Then I started CPAP. The hot flashes stopped. I think now these hot flashes weren't hormonal--I think it's OSA. Your body sends out tons of adrenaline to get you breathing again, heart pounds, sweats, the whole thing. My theory is bolstered by some of the men on this forum who complain of them too.
Then they returned. What the ????
My numbers look great on the data, but I did notice my pressure bumping up against the upper limit a LOT. My pressure was set at 13 and my graphs had all these long periods hitting that number. So, with the sleep lab's blessing, we bumped my pressure up to more cm's to 15. No more hot flashes.
It's been about 3 or 4 weeks now since we bumped my pressure up, and not a single hot flash in that time. The jury is still out, but I'm happy to think that's the cure. It's so nice NOT to wake that way!

Well, I'm a bit weird, but I've noticed that I get night sweats when my hair is left down at night and I don't when I braid it back. So, if your hair is long enough to hit your neck, you might want to try some way to keep it out of the way. I don't know why this happens but if I don't braid my hair I wake up dripping in sweat.

Thanks for that. I do find the PapCap is hot to wear in the summer...but I need the chinstrap. Gotta find a way to keep those pesky hot flashes from kicking in.djr1215 wrote:Well, I'm a bit weird, but I've noticed that I get night sweats when my hair is left down at night and I don't when I braid it back. Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
I take 3 times a day Evening Primerose oil capsules plus one soup spun of Rice Bran oil before going to bed.
The nightly hot flashes started almost at same time I started cpap (4 to 5 each night, impossible to sleep), a coincidence maybe. The truth is that wakes me up and I find that very hard to stand I understand you very well.
It tokes some weeks (2) for those things to really start working but if I remember to take the pills and the rice bran oil I have no hot flash that night. I hear about the cream natural hormones you put on your skin twice a day but I haven't try that. I should be the product Blackspinner mentioned.
I started first with only the rice oil but suddenly I stopped working as at the beginning (maybe I'm getting older in a couple of weeks), then I added the evening primrose oil. It's a friend of mine who told me about the primrose, she takes that and has no problem at all. She started taking 5 a day but I suggest to you to ask at the natural supplements store how to take it.

That ain't your body adjusting your temperature - it's your partner!BlackSpinner wrote:Sleep nude as it is easier for your body to adjust your temperature. Some of us guys are getting hot flashes in sympathy I think.
All I know is that I started taking Viagara and my wife's hot flashes stopped.

Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
Topical progesterone 3 wks then a 1 wk break just as if you were still cycling...if you're in perimenopause use on days 14 to 28 with day 1 being the start of flow. Make sure the cream says USP Progesterone, for best sleep & reduction of night sweats/hot flashes use the amt that delivers 20-21 mgs and sleep with your equipment regardless of how hot you get. I find sheets get incredibly hot so I sleep with a lightweight microfiber blanket. Buy a vertical fan with a remote control so when you get hot, you can turn the fan on. Find the skimpiest thing you can to sleep in or go nekid

The yam cream with the progesterone is un available in Canada - it works so well the pharmaceutical companies got it banned - you have to order it on from the internet.rosacer wrote: I should be the product Blackspinner mentioned.

Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
I suffered from hot flashes for years, both day and night. I tried all the natural remedies that have been suggested here with no relief. Last September, I had surgery to remove a large ovarian cyst and along with that they took out the damaged ovary. I begged the Dr. to give me something to stop the hot flashes so I could sleep. We tried Prempro and within 2 days I realized that I was not having any flashes. Haven't had one since. Of course, it was 105 degrees in Richmond yesterday. Everyone is having hot flashes!

Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
Well, again, many thanks to you all! There's plenty of ammo in your suggestions....and with any luck something will work! I'm sure the summer heat doesn't help things....but I do have the house cool and I have my fan blowing across the bedroom...so.......I will try your remedies and see what happens next! I appreciate your time!

Re: OT: Hot Flashes Interrupting Sleep
I dont get them, lucked out in at least one department!
however, I have friends who have them..
one puts a super soft terry towel under her when she goes to sleep, and keeps a wet towel in a bowl next to her bed, and just lays the wet towel on her when she gets one, she also has a fan, so you can imagine that would cool you off pretty quickly..
the other friend takes bio identical hormones..
good luck!
