Moderators are there any?

Post by IsrvChrist » Tue Jun 15, 2010 6:34 am

Are there any moderators in this forum? There is a thread that has been going on for than a year with personal attacks on people, and attacks on other countries. I notice a TON of adds for cpap.com and kinda take that this is a forum run by then or highly sponsored by them. If this is a indication on how they do busy or things they support I have no interest in doing busy with them. I am a first time poster and new to the CPAP and was looking for a forum for help and support... Guess I haven't found it.

Edit. Sorry I looked at the join date instead of the post date. I will admit my mistake. But still.

For over a year ... is that so?

Well this forum has the most members ... provides the most useful help and support ... is the most entertaining ... has the highest OSA treatment success.

The other forums are run by the devil and his moderators.

You decide.

Welcome.

The board is run by cpap.com and from what I've read here people are real happy with how they do business (I haven't bought anything here yet because I need to get a copy of my prescription).

As someone who hasn't been posting here very long I've noticed that the owners take a hands-off approach to what gets posted here (more or less). This hasn't been a problem with me (although I have noticed the same type of threads you're talking about). I've been on the net a lot of years (I did the bbs thing back in the 80s) and have participated in my share of flame wars. That said there are two or three people here I just flat-out ignore.

Stick around, there is a lot of really good information here and some great people. Ignore the "negative-nellies".

Everything the others said is true (although the thread you're referencing isn't a year old I don't think).

Unfortunately, people will be people regardless of the forum and how it's run. Even the best forum will have its share of trolls and flamers. It's just the reality of the world we live in.

For the most part, the people here are some of the best I've encountered on the internet. Despite the problems in the referenced thread (and a few others I've seen from time to time), this forum is incredibly helpful to those that come and ask for it.

I think the owners philosphy about running this forum should be admired. He lets the members run it for themselves and only steps in when absolutely necessary. I admit I considered bagging it here too because of some of this stuff, but decided to stay because the good far outweighs the bad. Plus, the friend/foe feature works pretty well and can be a serious blessing if someone gets on your nerves.

As for cpap.com, I've ordered from them twice and have had wonderful experiences.

Try the yahoo boards - they take 48 hours to moderate a post and don't allow any information regarding cpap machines to be posted. That should make you happy.

If you don't like the sand box go play somewhere else - we are all adults here we don't need someone to smack our fingers. If you don't like what is in a thread then DON'T READ IT!

As far as advertising is concerned - you get what you pay for - no advertising and you pay for the access privilege.

I find it very interesting that of the thousands of threads on this forum, which provide a vast amount of helpful information to those with sleep apnea, your very first post focuses on the negative.

I guess you find what you're looking for, right?

Well, I don't know if the OP is legit or not, but I know from my experience that when I first come to a new forum, I see threads with a lot of responses and those are the ones I go to first. For me, it makes it easier to get a feel for the forum by not having to bounce around the forum. And if those threads are nasty, it DOES give you a bad idea of the forum in general. Some people (like me) will read further to get to the truth, while others will read the long (and sometimes nasty) thread and make a decision based on that.

I think on every internet forum, you WILL find threads filled with nastiness. I don't think any forum can prevent it all the time.

Hey, guys, I've seen an another (non-health-related) forum that people will often return using new logons. Any chance that this thread was started by the guy who recently got banned? Strapparatus? Didn't he trash-talk cpap.com?

I've not been here long enough, but I'm betting Johnny or one of his colleagues can check IPs or something like that...

Some would be offended by Christ being used in a userid. Good they are not a moderator. Maybe there really is room for everyone here. And welcome to the forum, noticed it was your first post.

Nastiness is in the eye of the beholder.

What is nasty to one may well be sublime to another.

It comes down to tolerance. If someone cannot tolerate the diversity of people on this planet, then they should just hang out with close family and friends (if they can tolerate them) and stay off the internet, especially websites based on social interaction with strangers from around the world. Otherwise, they risk being disapointed and ... well, mad a lot.

'User Control Panel', 'Friends and Foes', 'Manage Foes'....pretty simple I think, do your own moderating. Personally I have got tons of very good information from this forum and choose to ignore the BS threads.

Welcome, IsrvChrist! I assume that you came to this forum because you are looking for information and support regarding sleep apnea and CPAP. You will find that in abundance here! There are many very knowledgeable, kind people on this forum, who give freely of their time to help others.

Sure, there are a few that stir up the pot from time to time. I usually just ignore those people. Some are trolls who get their jollies by attempting to create discord, while others are just having a particularly bad day in general. Some are sleep-deprived and not functioning at their best. I take what I need and leave the rest, as I do in my everyday life off the internet. There are jerks everywhere, but fortunately, most of the people are wonderful.

As far as cpap.com goes, I have ordered from them numerous times and I've been very happy with their service. They have an excellent selection of products, and they will match prices too. I am very grateful that they have provided this forum. Without it, many of us would have quit using CPAP long ago!

I hope you'll stick around and see why some of us continue to frequent this forum. If you have any questions regarding your therapy, feel free to start a thread. Read past threads and the "CPAP Wiki" (at the top of the screen). I think you'll find the answers here. I hope that you're getting good results from your therapy.

well to make it clear my user name is (with spaces to make it clear) I srv Christ, not Christ. I would never use the name of Christ like that.
