I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
I don't post very often but I wanted to take a moment to mention how pleased I am with this new machine. It took getting used to with the 'Darth Vader" type sounds at first but the numbers are much better with this vs. my older machine which 'died' a few weeks ago. It has a dial which allows for immediate feedback on several parameters such as AHI, large leaks, 90% pressure, etc. I am a fan!
I would change the icon below if I could.

That is great news!
Glad you are so happy with your new machine, and it seems to be doing the trick for you!
The new technology is making things better, that is for sure!
What I loved about that machine, is how it followed your breaths around like a little labrador puppy..
enjoy!

The puppy comment is right on the money! I am used to it for the most part but I am happy the 'antique' I had been using gave up the ghost. The ability to easily read your 'current' numbers is also very gratifying with this machine. As for 'enjoying' well, not as much as a nice sirloin strip, medium rare, lol.
Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
I love my little machine also. To bed at 11 pm last night, awoke at 8 am. I am able to check my own #'s thanks to some fine folks here. Happy Camper!
Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
I have no choice of machines through my Insurance and DME (Kaiser) but I don't have any major complaints. It's quiet, easy to use, and seems to work well for me.
There are things I wish it had like more data for patients on the screen (I could care less about compliance data, but would really like useful leakage data), a lighted screen (with the option to turn off the light), and patient data software that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
I don't think the humidifier is that great compared to the Resmed S9, but it's way better than some.
But, all in all, a good machine.

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
The only negative is filling the reservoir. If not careful pouring in through the top, water, water everywhere.
Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
oh, I think its designed for you to remove it from the unit, pour it out, and refill it by taking the
top of it.. thats what i did.. the hinges pop off easily.. of course if YOU DIDNT have to do that it
would be easier, but I rinsed mine out every night..
I actually was quite pleased with the humidifier and the warmth of the air I was getting.. very pleasant..

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
Whoops, sounds like they forgot to give you the instructions on how to refill the reservoir when you got your machine! The only negative is filling the reservoir. If not careful pouring in through the top, water, water everywhere.
1. Take the clear plastic reservoir OUT of the machine.
2. With the fat end of the reservoir facing you, Insert your fingers into the hole in the top and push on the plastic toward you--there's a little release in there and the whole top will come off the reservoir.
3. Fill with water to the line. To replace the cover, line up the back of the cover to the two little clips on the back, then snap the cover in place.
This is way easier and safer than trying to fill it through the hole in the top! Never try to fill the reservoir in the machine and it's always a good idea to take off the top as I have described to fill it because then you won't have stray water outside the "dry box" which can harm your CPAP machine.
If you need a visual, search YouTube for CPAPChoice's channel. He has a series of videos called the PR System One overview and Part 2 of 3, at babout 1 minute in, explains how to remove the top. He's a bit long-winded, but eventually gets to the point . If you watch all three of the overview videos he's made and the four System One menu's videos, you'll know almost all there is to know about the machine.

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
Do not fill the reservoir by unhinging the top. You will weaken the seal by constantly opening and closing it, and this can lead to leaks inside your machine and all over the table you're using for your machine.
Find a funnel that fits the hole. Position the funnel in the hole. Pour into the funnel. Replace the reservoir carefully back into the machine.
I can pour directly into the hole from the distilled water jug pretty well. I keep a small towel handy, and if I spill a little, I just mop up the sides before putting it in the machine.
Good luck!

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
oh the funnel does make more sense, the dme instructed us to press the little lever on the inside and unhinge it, but I did notice
the little rubber seals seemed to be very delicate.
I did wash mine out daily so, I took it apart to do that, because I have to keep everything uber clean.
It sure is hard to figure out how to take it apart, if you didnt know you had to press that little clear plastic lever inside,
it would be like a rubiks cube mystery!

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
Elena, my DME also instructed me to take the top off to refill it. In fact, before she even brought it to me, she had drawn an arrow in permanent marker showing me where to press.

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
That's why it is recommended that you replace the tank every 6 months, but I can hardly see that you should not refill it the way it was DESIGNED to be filled--by removing the cover. As long as you replace the tank regularly, and don't toss your machine around so water comes anywhere near the seal, I see no reason not to fill it by removing the top.Do not fill the reservoir by unhinging the top. You will weaken the seal by constantly opening and closing it, and this can lead to leaks inside your machine and all over the table you're using for your machine.
My sleep lab even recommended placing the tank in the dishwasher once a week. I haven't done so (I really don't want to breathe in dish detergent residue), but if that's the reocmmendation, then surely the seal can't be THAT delicate.

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
The more of these posts about filling it with water I read, the more confused I get, I think? The way I do it is like this:
I lift up on the front upper edge which opens the gray cover with the hose attached. I reach in, pull the clear plastic water tank straight out. Put it on the edge of my lavatory. Poor distilled water into the top till it runs out a bit and stick it back in the machine and slam the top back down, gently. It won't let you overfill it this way. It's quick and easy, safe and effective. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be done?

Re: I Really Like This Machine-Remstar Auto A-Flex
Here's a photo from the Phillips Respironics System One Web page showing how the tank should be filled:

The lid is OFF.
I have the patient manual for the humidifier at home, and it instructs you to REMOVE the lid before filling the reservoir.
If you pour water into the tank until it runs out, you have overfilled it. The clearly marked Maximum fill line is BELOW that tube from which the water runs out if you overfill. The safest way to fill the reservoir and avoid getting water on the outside of the reservoir is to remove the reservoir lid. If there is water on the outside of the reservoir from overfill runoff, you risk getting water into your machine.

We are talking about the SI here, right???Poor [sic] distilled water into the top till it runs out a bit and stick it back in the machine and slam the top back down, gently.
