Maybe it was my bad, because I just noticed the original poster seems to have an M-series, not a PR S1. I assumed since he/she was talking about a brand new machine and data that it must be a PR S1, but I see now that may not be correct.

Well, I will continue to do it the wrong way. Much faster, easier, less wear and tear, more logical(I think). Why tear more of it apart than you need to?

I do it in your way too. Instead of distilled water, I just put it under the tap.

After 3 months, the humidifier chamber is still very clear and in as new condition. Once a week I clean it up by separating the bottom from the top part and wash with vinegar and water solution. Just that nothing else...
