1st F/U ever from my DME

Post by rosiefrosie » Wed May 05, 2010 6:18 am

I have been using x-pap for well over 4 years and received my first ever phone call from my DME asking how things were going. Had to pick myself up off the floor before I could answer her questions. She asked me to give her the hours used, so I went to check it on my machine, she was trying to tell me how I could do this and when I told her "hang on, OK now I'm in the clinical menu" She let out a little gasp and said "oh my" I had to laugh and tell her I knew how to get into the clinical menu and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. So I gave her the number she wanted. Then she asked if I knew the name of the mask I was using. The conversation ended with me telling her that they should hire me as I knew more than most of the people who worked for them. She did take this comment well as she chuckled and said she would call back in about 3 months. It's like a love hate relationship with them.

Heh oh *follow*-up. "Follow" wasn't the word that immediately came to my mind.

Actually my jaw dropped when I saw the title of the post.
"Follow Up" for "F/U"

A bit like writing 'Sex Sex Sex' in the title for a yard sale.

Okay, come on, rosiefrosie, 'fess up -- that was intentional, right?

Hey! I'm guessing her DME provider hired a new RRT or a new manager and that person is mistakenly trying to improve their service. Unless its a higher up, like the owner or the DISTRICT manager, I wouldn't count on any further follow ups.

I knew darn well she didn't mean what you guys were thinking 'cause she said "FIRST TIME EVER". You know darn well it doesn't take 4 years for many local DMEs to "f... u." for the first time!!!!

It took me six months to figure out that F/U stood for Felix Unger (" the odd couple")

So, bottom line, easy mistake to make

Maybe somebody at the DME was "lurking" here and thought maybe they could do some "fence mending" Yeah right!

Cheers,

Dave

Well, in my defense I'm new here and assumed she had only been with the DME for a couple of days.

It should be pointed out that we are not making fun of Rosiefrosie and that any positive interaction with a DME is fantastic. It's merely an amusing choice of acronym easily attributed to something quite the opposite of it's intended purpose. I hope our jests have not in any way offended Rosiefrosie - but this is sort of amusing from an 'eats, shoots, and leaves' standpoint.

LOL, the first few weeks I worked for the DME company I am with now I couldn't get over that abbreviation. Ironic they use FU and F/U to mean follow-up also. Turns out it is a relatively common medical abbreviation. I thought everyone was just crass, but now I'm used to it.

I work IT for a big group of hospitals. F/U would never mean "follow up" in our world.

Not offended in the least. It is funny. Never even entered my mind about the other meaning, honest. Another abbreveation that makes me chuckle is SOB which means shortness of breath in the medical world.

Too funny Rosie on the F/U.

My guess would be that business is slow...my phone seems to ring an awful lot lately...not my DME though...they just keep sending me the same bill over and over and over again...if only they would send it properly to the insurance company they might get paid!
