Home Depot has a sliding dimmer that works fine; I plugged the 10W heater into the sliding dimmer, and it allows you to control how much heat...I think it was $10-$15.

There is also a timer made by Brinks which has a dimmer. I have not been able to find a link online but found my dimmer/timer at Walmart, in the aisle with the extention cords.

To me a timer is a MUST with this Repti Heater cable to avoid leaving it ON after leaving the house. It has two On/Off time settings plus the dimmer thingy.

Right now I am using both settings to turn my HC150 ON/off to avoid the rainout. I love it for pre-warming the HC150 too.

The other nice thing is it has the time on it and it doesn't take up much room.

I wanted to do a separate post on this but was unable to find a link to it. It's a Brinks Model 44-1070.

I'd skip the one from the reptile store (Repti-Temp Reostat #RT-10) as it has a feature that limits the lowest setting to about 13 watts. This is probably to make sure little turtles and snakes don't get a chill. ;o)

You can see my slider selection somewhere back a few posts. It's still working well for me after a couple years or so.

Hi, before I buy anything else for my CPAP set up I just wanted to see if anyone knows the answer the question that was posted before - do the Repti Heat cable or the Aussie heated hose prevent rainout just in the hose or do they also work for rainout in a nasal mask as well? (I didn't realize that those could be two different things until I read this, but I've got my CPAP on the floor and don't have the gurgling water in the hose anymore - just water dripping on my face from the nasal mask, so maybe that's the problem I"m having as well.)

I'm using the Respironics Comfort Lite 2 (essentially a nasal mask with various nose pieces). What I finally figured out was I am indeed getting rainout with the Repti heat cable, but ONLY at the business end of the mask (the nose piece). So, the Repti keeps things dry in the hose, but I have to pull the covers over my head to eliminate rainout in the mask. Together, I have zero rainout, unless I wake up and my head has popped out of the covers.

I've been thinking of how to devise some sort of "covers" for just my head when it gets warmer this summer. Maybe a birka?

I made a mistake. My cable is 25W, while yours is only 15W, so the Repti-Temp Reostat may be okay for you. Sorry for the confusion.

I would assume you could lower your wattage from 15 to around 8 with the RTR, but I failed in my attempt to calculate it.

I am currently using a 13 watt reptile heater on my 6 foot hose, while I don't get anymore rainout with it , the air is still a little chilly in my nose using nasal pillows. So I have constructed a new heated hose with the 25 Wat heater, but I have put the temperature sensor from a digital house thermostat inside the mask end of the hose. I haven't finished the control box yet, but I am looking forward to be able to automatically preheat my hose and set the air temperature using the timer settings on the thermostat I am going to post it here when I get everything working

I've been looking at the Aussie heated hose, but $139 seemed offensive. I finally found the perfect affordable solution. The Zoo Med Repti heat cable (as in reptile). The cable is a super flexible silicone, it's light weight, and it has just the right amount of warmth (15watts) the same as the Aussie.

Their shortest cable is just about perfect for CPAP. It's 11.5ft long, but only 5 ft. of it is heated (I would have preferred 6ft, but close enough). The rest is just cord to run to an outlet.

As for safety, I figure if it's safe enough for an iguana to walk on it should be safe enough for me to sleep with. Just slip it into a hose cover, a wire tie on the rubber part of the hose and your good to go. Cost $9 on eBay plus $8 for shipping (shipping fees are also offensive)

Which wattage did you buy? The picture you posted looks like 15 watts but there are several wattages available.

Tis the season to bump this thread and the one Rested Gal linked. Lots of good information on wattage, timers, etc.
I ran mine through an outlet connected to a dimmer switch(believe it or not, I already had one of these) and marked the dial using a kill-a-watt. Plugged it into a timer in case I forget to turn it off.

I've been using a Repti Heated Cable inside a hose cover since February of 2008, and inside the plastic CPAP hose since November 2010. Inside the hose reduces condensation more effectively at lower wattage and is more responsive to nighttime changes and at start-up.

One cable failed due to repeated bending at the base of the "bulb" end (opposite the plug end). Failure was experienced as an open circuit with wattage, and thus heat, intermittently going on and off. I noticed the wattage change on a perpetually connected Kill-o-Watt meter during a night with an unexpected rain out. No big deal. I had a second Repti Heat Cable as a backup that was placed in service the next day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the tip about the Repti Heater! We keep our bedroom quite cool and the air from my cpap full face mask felt like someone was rubbing my face with an ice cube. Read the tip, purchased the heater, and now am a happy camper (as much as anyone can be having to use a cpap!)
