Bev
I would check out those hot flashes. Just came across this post. MY hot flashes turned out to be low SpO2 causing violent spikes in Blood Pressure and waking me up in a sweat with my autonomic nervous system apparently attempting to save my life by getting me to breath properly and get oxygen into my blood supply. Quite interesting. With the Autoset set up properly now and a good fitting mask I no longer have the issue but have ordered a blood oximeter anyway (recording) so that I can follow along. And I am going to haul my Accutor BP automatic blood pressure cup (recording) up to the bedroom and let it run one night just to see what is happening until I can get one of those wrist type jobbies and make sure it works as well. When you have spent almost a month on life support and have had two code blues during that time and have watched them wheeling the corpses out in the night while you were only have conscious your outlook on your personal health changes somewhat.

As long as I live I will not forget the 2 a.m. visit to critical care (one step above ICU where they don't expect you to be leaving except feet first) of a young man's parents to identify his body and make arrangements.... only to find out that because drugs were involved he would be going downtown in a bag for an autopsy as it was then a criminal case. The mother wailed so loudly I will never forget. Nor will I forget when they wheeled him out to the elevator and down to the basement. That's one place I was glad to get out of and never want to return to. Whatever it takes.

Night all.
Wow, does this sound familiar...
I have been seeing the best of the best speacialists in the area; professors of medicine at the University of Toronto and teaching hospital network in Toronto. I was told that I was very fortunate that I did not have a stroke, heart attack, etc., and that the BP probably contributed to my erratic blood sugar (diabetes) and the whole lot. My BP was likely high enough, in fact, to pop my Aorta; either splitting it or popping it right off my heart. THAT is how serious and sinister the condition was. It happens no more with medication and CPAP. I am advised that if I continue to lose weight and do cardiovascular workouts under strict supervision (i.e. max 102 beats perminute, etc) that I will likely never come off CPAP due to my lung capacity having dropped to the 70% range (although by SpO2 is good) but that things would be much better. You need an advocate and you need to be your own advocate, especially with the DME's for whom this is simply a matter of bottom line with all due respect.... they need to put food on the table. To wit, my first mask was so bad it actually cut the bridge of my nose to the point it was bleeding. I have NEVER seen it advertised anywhere and have no idea where they got it. But they sure charged for it! I am now on the gear below which will be updated shortly to indicate all of the wonderful accessories that I have found and purchased and make my CPAP life so much easier and more efficient. I am actually providing my MD's more information than they could ever desire excepting for sleep studies where the encephalograms are part of the report. I am able to provide them almost everything else in real time including blood pressures every five minutes using an Accutor auto BP machine and shortly SpO2 with my CMS 50E, and I have ordered TWO of them from different sources to ensure that one arrives asap. One from Oximetry Online dot com for $120 delivered to my PO Box in Buffalo and the other from Contec Medical Systems directly for $139 delivered directly to my Canadian address by EMS (mail).

Fall colours. One of God's gifts. Life is fragile and short, savour every moment no matter what your problems may be. These stunning fall colours from my first outing after surviving a month on life support due to H1N1.

Am thinking about getting a CMS-60D Handheld Oximeter was hoping some one could answer a question?

From DreamDiver's great review

"Navigating the Visual Display:
There are four main display panels. The first display is the default, showing in large numbers your specific 02 and pulse, as well as the plethysmograph 'heart beat' graph that adds a sort of professional touch. All the most important data is visible."

The second display panel is accessed by hitting the 'up' arrow and is titled 'Mode 1'. This is a display showing whatever has been recorded and is still in memory. It shows a navigable graph almost 2 minutes wide with SPO2 in yellow and heart rate in red on a black field. Right and left arrows allow you to navigate between sections."

My question is in the display titled 'Mode 1', were it shows a graph of the last 2 minutes, can I scroll through that to see say the last 8 hrs of data? is that what it means when it says "This is a display showing whatever has been recorded and is still in memory" or is it just the last 2 min.

Thanks Very much for the help

Mode one is only available once the night has finished recording. It allows you to scroll through the whole night. It defaults starting at the beginning. From the first 2-minute epoch, you can hold down the right arrow button and scroll through the whole thing in a minute or two, or you can stop and look closer. If there is a question of about readings while you're viewing a specific 2-minute epoch, you can toggle to mode 2, scroll the little arrow cursor on the screen to the second in question and get the exact readings for each consecutive second. Pretty slick for this tiny machine. You can scroll through the night in mode 2 as well, but it takes longer because it's displaying every single second's worth of data textually as you scroll. It's just easier and quicker to use mode 1 and toggle to mode 2 if there are questions.

It's much better though to view it on screen. Reports can be customized. When you print them to pdf using a free pdf printer (or adobe acrobat printer driver) you get some pretty nice reports.
