Good to hear things are getting better Dori. I'm sure Mike is getting the best care possible with you around.

Re: Hubby Had Emergency Surgery!
I've been thinking about you and Mike. Glad to hear things are going better. Hopefully things will get back to nearly normal for you two. Please keep us posted on how things are going. I do look to see if there are updates from you daily and wonder if I don't see anything. I know you are very busy. Will keep you both in my prayers and sending positive thoughts your way.

Dori, I've been away awhile, and yes my prayers go out to Mike and you. And don't even look at the numbers from the hospital. And in fact, don't worry if the numbers don't go down for a bit even while home. You shoulda seen my numbers for the week after I dropped my kid off at college for the first time in January!
Hopefully the worst is over.
Hopefully the worst is over.

Thanks Gary, I needed someone to tell me not to worry about the data right now. I've been so consumed about getting his therapy right all this time that it's hard to let my guard down even though I know screwy numbers are to be expected when there is stress and pain involved. Hope your "little one" is doing well in school. I remember crying all the way home from Boston to NJ when we left our son at college.

Dori, I'm glad to hear that Mike's home now and you're back in the driver's seat re: his care. (I'm sure he's glad about that, too!)DoriC wrote:Thanks Gary, I needed someone to tell me not to worry about the data right now. Yep, screwy data is to be expected in these circumstances. (Shortly after my shoulder surgery in November, I had an AHI of 39.8, 38.5 of which was AI. ) Hang in there, Dori. Things will get better.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

Re: Hubby Had Emergency Surgery!
Dori,
Keep in mind that pain meds, especially narcotics, can worsen apnea, so it may take a bit to get Mike back on track. He may not be adjusting his mask 'cause he's not waking up enough to do so.
I'm glad things are going better for you both, though!

Dori, you don't strap on a mask every night.....DoriC wrote:Thanks Gary, I needed someone to tell me not to worry about the data right now. I've been so consumed about getting his therapy right all this time that it's hard to let my guard down

Re: Hubby Had Emergency Surgery!
Well, I'm really puzzled. I wish I knew how to post the data report but anyway, he had LL again for 110 minutes(20% of the night),Avg Leak Rate=63(s/b 40 lpm), of course AHI=0.1(only showed 1 apnea when his leak was lower) and when I awoke at 4AM his mask was off for an hour because the leaks woke him so I put it on him again but he still leaked . The kicker is that he woke this morning at 8AM quite rested and saying this is the best he's felt in quite awhile during which time the infection must have been quietly spreading. He's only telling me now that he wasn't feeling " right" for weeks. This has been an ongoing problem for me because he's reluctant to worry me and make trouble! I also only gave him 2 Tylenol instead of the Percocet as he had no pain at bedtime and thinking about what Kira said, I thought it might make a difference. He seems to have lost the knack of adjusting his mask himself and sleeping in one position can't be very comfortable. I know I'm answering my own questions but I guess I need some reassurance.

Re: Hubby Had Emergency Surgery!
Has he lost any weight through out this ordeal? Does he need a new mask? Just some ideas. You are doing great Dori. It will take a little while for things to get back to normal for the both of you. If he is not complaining of any pain go with the Tylenol. At least he is saying he's feeling better than he has. It will be alright, hang in there.

Re: Hubby Had Emergency Surgery!
Dori, it sounds like he is doing fine, considering what's he's gone through. I know it's hard not to worry, because that's your job.
As far as fine tuning though, if Mike is sleeping on his back--he might be more comfortable with a pillow under his knees. Or if he's on his side, a pillow that goes lengthwise between his knees and ankles.
Is the LL when he took his mask off? I'm not familiar with Respironics, so don't know if it turns off automatically.
Your love and care for Mike touches me very much.

Rosie, No weight loss, appetite is good in fact.
Katie, He's really sleeping on his back just slightly to his left side, not his usual total side position. Good tip about using pillows behind his back, they were doing that in the hospital but I forgot. The LL were all happening with the mask on, he did turn the machine off when he removed his mask and it shows about an hour gap on the report until I turned it on again. I'm also going to check mask fittings and machine for any malfunction, maybe? Thanks.

Dori,
What a blessing you are to Mike . . . and what an encourager to us all on the forum! May the Lord give you the strength you need as Mike's "angel of light" as you continue to care for him.
