Forum Suggestion - Topic Sections

I would for one appreciate better tracking options. Something more than just the "e-mail me when someone replies to this thread"

A "watch this thread" feature where you could pull up all your watched threads. I would REALLY like a feature like that.

I have to say, I have had the same thought about categories, but I also understand the idea of exposing everyone to the vast knowledge that is out there.

the statement that categorization leads to more unanswered threads can be countered with the new thread can quickly go off hte front page and be unanswered as well. From my own experience, I had my thread about new equipment disappear off the first page with only 1 or 2 answers in less than a day due to high volume in the forums, but I found it and posted to it to bump it back up and get more input.

Personally I can go either way with the category idea, though.

At least you got SOME answers (initially).
I just spent a little time visiting a couple of the other (well-known) forums. There are many posts with zero responses on the first and second pages and further back than that.
On those two forums, in what could be called their "General Help Questions" sections, the posting dates on the first/front page goes back at least five days on one......and on the other, it goes back to mid-January.
And, those forums have "moderators". This one is......well......"lightly" moderated......at least a couple of them peek in and post occasionally. Otherwise, they seem to trust the rest of us (adults) to try to keep some amount of order.

Here is the path for that feature:

User control panel/Board preferences/Edit posting defaults/Notify me upon replies by default: No

That really cuts down on the email if you post often or post in popular threads.

Awesome perspective. That's exactly how multiple topic section forums sometimes feel. We talked about how it might be nice to have a separate forum for people trying to create local gatherings when we were talking at Einstein's in Atlanta earlier this month, but - meh - maybe it's better just the way it is.

I like being able to see everyone's questions in one place. I learn a lot more about other people's machines and xPAP therapies than in places where forums are separated out.

I'll have a grated Pecorino Romano on my popcorn. No extra butter or salt.

I think this forum surpassed that number of "characters" a LONG time ago.
