face itching under mask

Post by nobody » Wed Feb 10, 2010 8:41 am

I've been using a CPAP for 2 years. Lately though I keep waking up because it feels like something is tickling my face under the mask. I try to ignore it and go back to sleep but it just keeps going til I reach under there and scratch it. Then a short time later I'm awakened again by the same thing maybe in a different spot. I've shaved all my facial hair so it couldn't be that. I wash the mask daily before putting it on. What could be causing this all of a sudden? Is it just psychological???

note: I've been using the quattro mask regularly lately, but it also happens when I use the simplicity

it happens to me too. Not often, but when it does, thereis nothing you can do but reach under there and scratch. I think it is moisture....maybe my mask wasn't as clean as it should be..I don't know.. If you figure it out let me know.

Same thing happens to me, and probably everyone else too.

With me, I think it's because of heat & humidity. There are times when it's too hot in the bedroom and I'll sweat under the mask and ITCH. Other times I'll have the humidity set too high and my face will be "moist" and I'll ITCH. It's a PITA but I go right back to sleep, too lazy to do anything about it.

I get an itch under my mask frequently, also. I resist the urge to scratch because it just makes me want to scratch more. If I leave it alone, it goes away and doesn't come back.

I run into this too. If the itch is way under the mask (not at the edge) I ignore it and it goes away. If it's right at the edge, I reach in and scratch it. I find that my nose itches a lot, probably because it's the hardest place to reach!!

Apparently, under mask itching is due to being too good looking and having too much sex and having far too much money

For me itching under the mask is caused by moisture under the seal OR skin reacting to the soap I used to wash mask or I didn't rinse off all the residues.

I agree with the "moisture majority"...and I keep a Q-tip handy for scratching with minimal disturbance of the seal. It also absorbs the tiny drop that's so often the culprit.

Q-Tip! That's a brilliant idea! I'll keep a couple on my night stand as annoying itching in places I can't reach without removing the mast has crept up for me the last couple nights. My leak numbers are very good anyway so the Q-Tip will certainly not ruin them.

Thanks for the idea!

I've been using the Remzzz's Cpap mask liners. This has eliminated the moisture, the itch and leaks. Very comfortable.

I know this is going to sound counter-intuitive, but that's one reason that I don't wash my mask very often.......as I notice that sensation more when my mask has just been washed.
